Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently expanded its esports portfolio by acquiring the esports tournament platform Repeat.gg.

Sony has acquired tournament platform Repeat.gg as part of its ongoing esports investment expansion.

A group of former professional gamers and esports business advisors founded the San Francisco-based company Repeat.gg in 2015. The tournament platform offers automated esports tournaments that are designed to make esports more accessible for players.

The platform also gives users access to marketing and performance analytics, enabling them to keep tabs on their recent tournament performances. The administration and awarding of prizes for tournaments have been entirely automated by Repeat.gg. The platform tracks the rankings of the competitions and distributes prizes in accordance with outcomes using innovative technologies.

According to Repeat.gg, the platform has hosted more than 75,000 tournaments, serving more than 2.3 million participants. Although Repeat.gg has been acquired by PlayStation, thecompany still plans to support other platforms, including Mobile, PC, and consoles. In its blog post, Repeat.gg expressed excitement and joy about the acquisition:

“We are so excited for the future and the ability to work alongside such a powerhouse in gaming; we can’t wait to share what we have planned for the future. Thank you to those who have given us feedback, competed in tournaments, and been active in our community. The journey has only just begun!”

Sony expands its esports territory

While continuing to make investments in the esports sector, Sony has signed a number of collaboration agreements with businesses and organizations in the gaming industry. Through a joint venture esports collaboration, Sony and RTS, a fresh initiative from Endeavor’s esports division, purchased the legendary EVO fighting game competition on March 18.

After acquiring EVO, Sony is leveraging the brand to promote INZONE, Sony Corporation’s new gaming gear brand, in front of the entire fighting game community. Gamers were drawn to the new brand when it was revealed as EVO’s premier partner for 2022 and 2023 on June 28.

The following day, INZONE announced a partnership with Riot Games’ VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). With the multi-year agreement, the company will serve as the circuit’s official headset partner. To kick off the partnership, top Valorant players from across the world used INZONE headsets at the Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen on July 10.

On March 22, Sony and game developer Krafton agreed to a new partnership, making Sony’s Xperia brand the official smartphone partner for all international PUBG MOBILE Esports competitions. In accordance with the agreement, Sony’s Xperia smartphone range will be used by teams and players at PUBG MOBILE esports competitions in 2022.

Lastly, the $3.7 billion agreement between Sony and Bungie was finalized recently, bringing the development team behind Destiny and the Halo Series into the Sony family.
