Ahead of the International 11 regional qualifiers, Team SMG completed their Dota 2 lineup by adding star Southeast Asian players Daryl “iceiceice” Koh Pei Xiang and Wilson “poloson” Koh.

Pieliedie returns to Southeast Asia after spending more than eight months with the European group Team Secret. For the forthcoming regional qualifiers for the Internationals 11, SMG, a well-known Malaysian esports company, has acquired him as well as former Ybb player Poloson. The organization benched Ryan “Raging Potato” Qui and removed Johan “pieliedie” ström from his contract to create room for the new duo. Raging Potato has been a member of SMG since November 2021, while pieliedie has only played with the squad for two months and has only participated in the third Tour of the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit.

After playing in the West for almost two years, Iceiceice’s switch to Team SMG marks his return to competition in Southeast Asia. The Singaporean offlaner left his home nation in November 2020 to join the North American team Evil Geniuses. Iceiceice participated in the European Dota Pro Circuit from 2021 to 2022 as a member of Team Secret.

After the team’s underwhelming showing during the last two seasons, Team Secret parted ways with iceiceice, prompting him to leave the Western Europe scene. Poloson, on the other hand, played in two DPC tours in 2021 with Nigma Galaxy SEA before departing for China to join YBB Gaming for the 2022 DPC Tour III. After spending a disappointing stint with the tier-three team, the Singaporean player has returned to his roots.

Team SMG will debut at GAMERS GALAXY

At GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Thailand 2022, held at the Central Hatyai from 18 to 20 August, the revamped SMG roster will make its debut. It will be crucial for Team SMG to do well in Thailand because it is the final Dota 2 tournament before the Southeast Asian TI11 qualifier.

In addition to providing decent prize money, the event will allow SMG’s revised roster to synergize before the regional qualifiers. The competition will include six other teams that will take part in the TI11 qualifiers, making it a true test for the newly assembled team. The forthcoming regional qualifiers, which will take place from September 3 through September 18 next month, are SMG’s last opportunity to make it to the International as the top 12 teams invited to the tournament through DPC points have already been selected.
