After a long time of waiting and a few eye-catching trailers, the game Skate Story is at last coming to both console and PC platforms. Moreover, PlayStation users will have an additional benefit to look forward to. The developer Sam Eng and the publisher Devolver Digital have announced that this weird skateboarding journey will be available from the 8th of December, 2025, and that it will be the Day One release in the PS Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members. Thus, players will not have to buy the game separately if they want to start playing it at the time of its release.
Skate Story PS Plus: What Is a Skate Story?
Skate Story is not a regular skateboarding game. It is a dark and twisted surreal, action-adventure game, where the player controls a demon skateboarding made of glass and suffering, who had entered a pact that he could not rescind. Your goal is very basic if you consider it from the outside, but it is quite bizarre: you have to skate through the Underworld, get to the Moon, and eat it to be able to get out.

The game will be on PS5, PC (Steam), macOS, and Nintendo Switch 2. That makes it reachable for players who want something that leans into mood and atmosphere.
Sony announced that Skate Story will be a part of the PS Plus Game Catalog starting December 8, 2025. Hence, no extra cost is needed for users with Extra and Premium subscriptions to access the game.

Gameplay: Combo Stomps, Battles, Exploration
Skateboarding remains the base of the gameplay in Skate Story; however, the game goes beyond merely performing trick sets. The Underworld is divided into nine layers with each having ash-covered streets, bent structures, and even dream-like zones.
The combo stomp system is one of the most important features. By executing different tricks, you are able to fill a combo meter. If you do repeats or you lose your speed, the meter gets weaker. When the meter is full, it is possible to unleash a heavy aerial stomp which not only looks cool but also breaks demonic enemies that can be of different sizes including the likes of the Moon. Boss fights blend skating, combat, and momentum-based platforming to skills of timing and flow.
Also, there are areas of free exploration where you are allowed to roam, look for secrets, and ride through unusual places. More than 70 tricks are available for you to unlock, and the board customization system can be your choice of adjusting decks, trucks, and wheels through the use of soul currency that you get from good skating.
Story, Characters, and Atmosphere

The story combines scary and strange times. You will encounter a frog who cannot remember, a skull-headed commuter, a demon that operates a laundromat, and a millipede subway train among the residents of the Underworld. These characters add little pieces of humor and small emotional beats throughout the journey.
Besides that, the soundtrack includes the music of Blood Cultures and some work of John Fio with the usage of industrial and electronic tones. The DualSense controller on PS5 has reactive haptics and a shifting light bar that shows the shine of your glass body.
Skate Story is not just a skate game. It combines skating, narrative concepts, and supernatural elements to create something different. With the Day-One PS Plus launch, its look, mechanics, and tone are setting it up as one of the most prominent indie releases of 2025. Skate fans and players who like surreal storytelling may find this Underworld ride hard to skip.
