Since the fanfare of the Silent Hill 2 remake, many fans have been waiting to have a “retro” experience that goes back to the start of the series. And now, we’ll get that! Bloober Team and Konami are joining forces again to create an all-new experience of the very first game. It’s all still coming in, but the hype is already here! Let’s run through what we know so far.
About Silent Hill 1
Silent Hill 1, or as we just say, Silent Hill, was a survival horror game developed by Team Silent and published by Konami in 1999. The game tells the story of Harry Mason, a normal writer, who brings his adopted daughter, Cheryl, to Silent Hill, a quaint resort town that appears calm and idyllic. Things take a turn for the worse when Harry swerves to avoid hitting a mysterious girl on the road, crashes his car, and wakes up to an empty town shrouded in fog where Cheryl is missing. All the regular phenomena of nature have gone awry, leaving Harry frantically searching for his daughter.
While searching for Cheryl, Harry keeps experiencing the surroundings turning into a nightmarish place, referred to as “Otherworld”. Horrible creatures populate this place, and it’s all centered around a cult seeking to bring a dark god through rituals. Various characters, whom Harry has spoken to, help tell the story of a girl called Alessa, whose suffering is central to the town’s horror.
Silent Hill Remake Development Details
Bloober Team, the studio responsible for the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 Remake, is leading development of Silent Hill 2025 Remake. They announced the project in June 2025 and represent Bloober Team’s biggest collaboration yet with the original publisher, Konami. The remake aims to re-imagine the foggy, spooky town with a modern approach to graphics and gameplay. And this is all while still trying to maintain the creepy atmosphere found in the original Silent Hill 1999.
The trailer showed some classic fog and the Silent Hill logo, but didn’t provide any gameplay or other information. Over 2 million copies sold and multiple award nominations mark the success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake. So expectations are high for this remake to be true to the original series’ legacy while introducing it to a new generation of fans.
What Has Been Revealed So Far
The word dropped during Konami’s Press Start Live showcase on June 12 in 2025. A short teaser with the classic Silent Hill logo and music from the original game preceded it. They didn’t give a release date or details on gameplay other than it’s an HD reimagining of the 1999 classic.
Other than the initial announcement, we don’t know much else, as we haven’t gotten any information, even official release windows. Industry speculation indicates that Silent Hill 2, could be out in the late 2026 or 2027 range. That’s a given with Bloober Team’s schedule alongside the announcement of Silent Hill f coming out in September 2025.
Final Thoughts
The Silent Hill remake’s going to be a hell of a ride back to that bizarre little town that scared the pants off a whole generation! With Bloober Team doing the work for Konami, they’re not messing around with that. And, a full modern rebuild confers a great, exhilarating experience that’s very true to what the original was. Until more news or release information appears, we can do nothing but brace ourselves for the horrors of Silent Hill.
