BTS Pro Series Season 7: Southeast Asia is finally over and the winner is not one of the favorites.... Radu M. | 15. August 2021

BTS Pro Series Season 7: Southeast Asia is finally over and the winner is not one of the favorites. At the start of the race, T1, Fnatic, and SMG were regarded as the top contenders but it was Galaxy Racer that walked away with the trophy.

BTS Pro Series Season 7 Results

BTS Pro Series Season 7 started poorly for many of the top teams. Fnatic lost 2 of its first 3 matches. T1 had 2 defeats and 2 draws after the first 4, and SMG lost both of its disputes from day 1. Needless to say, everyone was shocked by the upsets.

Every once in a while, a top team gets defeated by a lesser opponent. But then it picks itself up and starts winning again. Or it has a bad tournament altogether. But other top teams rise to the occasion and take their spot. In the case of BTS Pro Series Season 7, all of the top teams messed up badly and finished the Group Stage in 3rd – 5th place. The first two positions were occupied by Execration and Galaxy Racer.

Here’s the complete list of results for this stage:

  • 1st place: Execration: 9 W – 5 L (in games, not matches)
  • 2nd place: Galaxy Racer: 8 W – 6 L
  • 3rd place: T1: 8 W – 6 L
  • 4th place: Fnatic: 8 W – 6 L
  • 5th place: Team SMG: 7 W – 7 L
  • 6th place: Motivate.Trust Gaming: 7 W – 7 L
  • 7th place: OB Esports x Neon: 6 W – 8 L
  • 8th place: Army Geniuses: 3 W – 11 L

Because of the tournament format, all of the 8 teams advanced to the Playoffs. The top 4 started in the Upper Bracket while the bottom 4 in the Lower Bracket.

Playoffs Results

The Playoffs of BTS Pro Series Season 7 continued the string of upsets, but some of the favorites started to show signs of life. GXR defeated T1 (2 – 1) but Fnatic won their match against Execration (2 – 1). In the Lower Bracket, SMG had a great run and won 3 matches in a row, defeating Army Geniuses, Execration, and T1. Then they ran into Fnatic, who had lost the Upper Bracket Final against GXR. Jabz and his crew won the match (2 – 0) with two almost identical drafts. Their Luna + Rubick + Pangolier combination proved too strong to deal with.

Grand Final

This was a very strange match that started well for Fnatic. Their strategy in the first two games was to control the map and win the laning phase. All of their heroes were picked for early game skirmishes and worked really well in combination with the other elements of the draft. Because of this, Fnatic secured a 2-game advantage in a little over one hour of play.

Then came the complete reversal. GXR found a way to stop Fnatic’s early game maneuvers but still pick heroes with better late-game potential. And in all 3 games, they simply crushed their rivals.
