IEM Dallas is about to enter the playoffs stage but unfortunately for Cloud9, they are no longer in the race.

The North American team got defeated by Astralis and FaZe Clan and as a result, failed to secure a top three position in group B. The competitive format only allows three teams to advance to the playoffs, which means that C9 failed again.

This is not the first time this year that Cloud9 disappoint. They did the same thing at IEM Katowice, where they finished 13th-16th. And in the qualifiers for the Paris Major, C9 finished 9th-11th and missed the tournament completely.

But overall, C9’s results in 2023 have been decent. They finished 2nd at ESL Pro League S17, 1st at BetBoom Playlist.Urbanistic, 3rd-4th at IEM Rio, and 1st at Brazy Party.

The fact that they finished 7th-8th at IEM Dallas shouldn’t make the management of the team believe that a roster change is necessary. After his team got eliminated, Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov apologized for the team’s performance. Hopefully, C9 will do better at the upcoming tournaments.

Cloud9’s IEM Dallas run

Cloud9 started the tournament with a victory against Grayhound Gaming and everything looked good. The score was 16-2, so people had high expectations from the NA team.

But in their next match, C9 encountered Astralis and caught them on one of their best days in recent memory. Both Nicolai “device” Reedtz and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer finished the match with a rating 2.0 of more than 1.55, which is very impressive. Despite sh1ro’s best efforts, his team simply couldn’t keep up with the Danes.

This defeat sent C9 to the lower bracket, where they had to play against Complexity. The match was close on the first two maps and needed a third to conclude. Eventually, after a 16-2 score on Overpass, Cloud9 qualified for the lower bracket Final. But here, they needed to beat FaZe Clan.

This is the worst team to face in a qualification match because they’re extremely determined and know how to win under pressure. In fact, that’s when they play their best CS.

The match had three maps and all of them were one-sided. C9 won the second one: 16-7 on Inferno. FaZe Clan won the other two. The best player on the server was Helvijs “broky” Saukants, whose K-D score was 61-41.
