Earlier this month, a South American veteran player and former Wolf Team player made a concerning claim that South American players haven’t received their DPC Tour 3 prize money

Yesterday, this claim was backed by another South American esports organisation — SG esports. In their most recent Twitter post, the South American organisation stated that the tournament organisers have not paid them their promised prize money from DPC SA Tour 3. SG esports has been playing in the Dota pro scene since 2016 and they are a familiar face in DOTA 2.

A call for help

SG esports managed to secure the top spot in Division II during their Tour 2 of DPC SA making them qualify for the Division I in the Tour 3 of DPC. SG esports placed 5th in their DPC Tour 3 Division I thus securing a $25 000 USD in tournament money for the placement. The DPC Tour 3 ended in July as the top 2 teams from Tour 3 were qualified for the Arlington Major which ended in August.

According to the set of rules set by Valve, tournament winnings must be paid out within a maximum of 90 days. However, several months have passed since the end of Tour 3 and the team has confirmed that they have not received their tournament money.

SG esports has reportedly tried to open a dialogue with the organizers of the tournament 4D Esports before involving Valve, however, the org’s patience is running thin.

Four days after 4D reached out to Valve regarding the situation, there seems to be no response from the publisher. Now, the organization seeks the community’s help to receive public exposure in order to get a response from Valve and hopefully resolve this conflict.

Why tournament winnings matter

Tournament winnings are crucial for the survivability of professional Dota 2 players, as it’s their income that helps them pay rent and bills. However, it has been 134 days since the Tour 3 ended and SG esports hasn’t received anything.

Valve had similar problems in the past, leading the community to make a spreadsheet named DOTA 2 DEBTS Tracker in order to meme Valve’s effectiveness in the situation. Expectedly, this situation has made it to the list.

Moreover, there were some rumours about the team’s Division I slot being purchased by the new Evil Geniuses roster. With the uncertainty and the unnecessary stress that the team is currently facing; SG esports could possibly make those rumors come true.
