Samsung RDNA 2-Equipped Exynos SoC Delivers Spectacular GPU Performance

If you’re a fan of mobile gaming — and happen to be partial to Samsung and its Exynos series of SoCs — then you’ll be happy to know that their upcoming chipset will deliver best-in-class GPU performance! We knew we were in for something truly special back when Samsung announced their partnership with AMD, but no one could have foreseen this level of performance.

Simply put, they’ve knocked it out of the park.

But let’s not waste any more time than neccessary. Instead, let’s focus on the one thing that matters most: benchmarks!

Samsung Exynos SoC & RDNA 2 GPU — Incredible In Every Which Way

According to a well-known leaker, AMD’s upcoming SoC obtained a whopping 8134 points in the 3D Mark Wildlife GPU benchmark. This, when compared to the Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 — both of which scored 5295 and 5382, respectively — is simply astonishing.

Samsung upcoming SoC will therefore be at least 50% faster than some of the most potent chipsets on the market today, all of which are already sufficiently powerful for the most demanding games out there. It’s even stronger (GPU-wise) than Apple’s A14 Bionic (which scores a bit over 7000 depending on the model)!

Additionally, the CPU that was used is based on the Cortex-A77 architecture, so the end result might get even more impressive once Samsung decides to move away from this sort of “test silicon.” Now, again, these are just preliminary results, but they paint a wholly exciting picture!

It does, however, suffer from thermal throttling, with a 20% performance drop after the second, and 30% after the third run. Still, we don’t know anything about Samsung’s overall testing methodology so it’s too early to judge. Even if they decide to slightly gimp the SoC so as to attain satisfactory thermals, they’d still end up with one of the best chipsets on the market.

There’s A Lot of Interest

If the rumor mill is to be believed, Samsung will actually sell their upcoming Exynos 2200 SoC to third parties like Vivo and probably anyone else who’d be interested. Doing so would not only increase Samsung’s profit, but would also reduce Qualcomm’s importance and stranglehold on the market — a win-win for the Korean tech conglomerate, all things considered.

What’ll actually happen still remains to be seen, but these are nonetheless exciting times for mobile gaming and tech in general. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to get a glimpse of the future as Samsung is expected to unveil this brand new SoC in a matter of weeks!
