The young canons of Vietnam, Saigon Buffalo have secured their place at the League of Legends World Championship 2022, marking VCS’s highly anticipated return to the Worlds following a two-year absence.

Saigon Buffalo have qualified for Worlds after winning the semifinal match of the VCS Summer Playoffs against GAM Esports. They will move on to the Worlds group stage if they succeed in winning the next grand final match. The runners-up, however, will be slotted into the Worlds play-in stage. The upcoming Worlds will mark Saigon’s fourth international tournament and its second appearance at Worlds. Despite VCS’ dramatic absence from Worlds the past two years, they have managed to participate in 38 matches on the international stage since 2018.

The League of Legends World Championship will begin on September 29, featuring 24 of the world’s top League teams competing for the chance to lift the prestigious Summoner’s Cup. Worlds will take place across several spectacular North American locations, with the play-in stage taking place in Mexico City. San Francisco will host the final, while New York City and Atlanta will host the groups and playoffs, respectively.

The Buffalo herd will put Vietnam back on the league map

It’s been more than two years since the League fans witness a VCS representative on stage at Worlds. Due to severe regulations, Vietnam was excluded from Worlds 2020, MSI 2021, and Worlds 2021, putting an end to all dreams and hopes of VCS to compete internationally. However, Saigon Buffalo broke the region’s international dry spell by representing the VCS at the Mid-Season Invitational earlier this year. The Vietnamese killing machines struggled in the debris stage after a stunning second-place finish in the play-in with victories over groups like Detonation FocusMe and Team Aze.

Even though they were able to defeat G2 Esports and PSG Talon, their performances against other well-known teams were poor, and they finished the competition in sixth place with a 2-6 record. The Young upstarts Saigon Buffalo now faces a challenging task—reestablishing VCS dominance at Worlds 2022. The aggressive herd that is trampling through the crowds at Worlds is carrying great hope and despite their lack of international experience, they are driven by passion. To make the most of these opportunities and reestablish their international tale, which was so quickly derailed at MSI Busan, the squad has been practicing and grinding for months.

At Worlds, all eyes will be on the bloodthirsty technical artists from Southeast Asia, but GAM should also be acknowledged because they also have a strong chance to qualify for the event. The two teams are probably going to be the ones to help reestablish Vietnam on the League of Legends map, especially when the Worlds is getting closer.
