Rocket League: New Game Mode “Knockout-Bash”

For the first time in Rocket League history, there will be a game mode where everyone is fighting everyone. Eight players will battle it out for victory in three new arenas. The mid-season event will run from 27.04.-10.05.

To reassure everyone who thinks Rocket League is now turning into Fortnite, that’s not the case. But for once, players can do without team play. But the new game mode is, as always, only available for a limited time!

The game idea

As with every FFA mode, the same applies to the latest mode in Rocket League: whoever is left wins the round. The game goal is achieved by getting all the other players out of the arena three times. This is because the three new Rocket Labs-style playfields Quadron, Calavera and Carbon are surrounded by a dome or death zone. In addition, there are spikes and laser fields in the venues that lead to a direct knockout if they are touched. To emerge victorious in the new mode, players are provided with three new abilities.

These are:

  • Attack
  • Snatch
  • Block

While the first two abilities can be used for your own offense, the last one is meant for defense. When simply attacking, the other player is bumped, but in a much stronger version than before. In addition, the bump changes its strength depending on the speed. But you have to be careful with this, because the opponents can also block the attacks, so the third ability is a passive ability. So that leaves snapping, which is again an active ability. In doing so, you can jack up an opponent and send them flying through the area.

The three main abilities will be displayed in the game as a so-called battle triangle. With this, there is now also the possibility that on 27.04. can be cleared up, for which another hotkey or further binding had to be introduced in Rocket League. Because actually, new key bindings are not something that is regularly implemented into a game. Although the Rumble fan community already had hopes.

But apart from the three main abilities, the new mode brings even more changes. After attacks that are directed at you or blocked attacks, you are stunned for the time being until you cancel the stun yourself. There are also triple jumps in the mode and multiple jumps in the air. If you now think that this has something to do with flipresets, you can rest assured. Because the multiple jumps can be used completely freely in terms of time. But the jumps themselves are supposed to be more “vertical” and presumably transport the players higher into the air.

Something that remains

One thing that is already known from Dropshot, after all, is the boat management. For only on the ground it will charge, unless you use it. However, the boost will be slightly stronger so players can recoil after an attack. There’s a good chance that the developers won’t add a new boost strength of their own and will use the 1.5x boost instead.

Bringing back memories…

The game mode reminds a bit of a combo of Super Smash Bros. and Bump Balls from Marion Party. Will it be as popular?
