RNG win the Chinese Qualifier for The International 11

The Chinese Qualifier for The International 11 had a couple of very strong teams and they were the finalists. But nobody expected the skill difference between them to be so big. The Grand Final should have been a tough match for both sides, not a 3-0 demolition.

It seems that the former members of PSG.LGD, who now compete for Royal Never Give Up, are still capable of playing Dota 2 at the highest level. Their victory over Xtreme Gaming was impressive and puts them on the favorites list for this year’s TI.

Historically, China and Europe have been the strongest regions in Dota 2, so even the winner of a mere regional qualifier is likely to defeat most of the best teams from the other regions.

Complete results

The Chinese Qualifier for The International 2022 featured 13 teams. Most of them had no chance whatsoever but some, such as Vici Gaming and Invictus Gaming, have a long history full of excellent results, so they were expected to put up a good fight. And they did, to the best of their ability. But they couldn’t climb higher than third and fourth place respectively.

The region can send two teams to the Last Chance Qualifier, which means that Xtreme Gaming and Vici Gaming will get their final chance to qualify for TI between October 8-12.

The complete results of the Chinese Qualifier look like this:

  • Winner: Royal Never Give Up
  • Runner-up: Xtreme Gaming
  • Third place: Vici Gaming
  • Fourth place: Invictus Gaming
  • Fifth-Sixth: CDEC Gaming, Aster.Aries
  • Seventh-Eight: Ybb Gaming, ShenZhen
  • Ninth-Twelveth: Team MagMa, Team Fusion, EHOME, LBZS
  • Thirteenth: Team Saiyan

RNG’s run

RNG played four matches in total at this tournament, but they really had just one real opponent: Xtreme Gaming. Against Ybb, their first upper bracket adversary, they won in just one hour of gameplay. Aster.Aries, their second adversary, fought a little harder but still lost in one hour and six minutes.

The upper bracket Final against Xtreme Gaming was the first challenge for RNG. The team lost game one is just 30 minutes, thanks in part to XG’s excellent draft. Primal Beast plus Lone Druid proved to be a deadly hero combo.

In games two and three, RNG went back to more traditional heroes, such as Puck and Batrider, and won with ease.

Vici Gaming couldn’t do anything against XG in the lower bracket Final, so the two giants, RNG and XG, met again in the Grand Final. This time, RNG did not give XG any chance and won with a score of 3-0.

What’s impressive about this win is that they succeeded with a Bristleback plus Queen of Pain combo in games two and three, against heroes that were perfectly equipped to deal with it and against world-class players like Zhang “Paparazi” Chengjun.
