Golden Guardians announced a surprise mid-season signing, acquiring Korean jungler Kim “River” Dong-woo from LCS rivals Dignitas to bolster their lineup for the remaining LCS Summer Split 2022.

In their pursuit of a top-six seeding going into the summer playoffs, Golden Guardians have acquired Korean jungler River, an immediate enhancement for the team who has all the capabilities to be a game changer. River distinguished himself as the top performer on the North American roster despite Dignitas’ failure to accomplish anything notable during the previous split. River’s individual performance stats during the current split are regretfully not very impressive due to his team’s inconsistent play.

Golden Guardian’s chances to make it to the playoffs and compete for the title are optimal. After five weeks of play in the 2022 LCS Summer Split, Golden Guardians are in the seventh position with a 4-7 record. They trail Cloud9 and Counter Logic Gaming, who are tied for fifth place, by two victories. Golden Guardian can secure a top-five finish and upper bracket playoff seeding if they could manage to step up their game in the second half of the split.

Regardless of the result, the addition will undoubtedly add more balance to the team and an exciting twist to Split. However, this isn’t the first time the team has amazed their fans with an unexpected mid-season signing. Prior to the 2022 season, Golden Guardians signed Licorice from FlyQuest in 2021, giving their lineup enough time to synchronize with their new star top laner.

Golden Guardians’ current LCS roster”:

  • Eric “Licorice” Ritchie
  • Milo “Pridestalker” Wehnes
  • Nicholas “Ablazeolive” Antonio
  • Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes
  • Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung
  • Kim “River” Dong-woo

Team Dignitas reshuffle their LCS roster

Team Dignitas announced significant lineup adjustments for the LCS and LCS Academy, giving the young guns a greater stage to flourish after shipping away their star player to Golde Guardian. The team has moved Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin and Toàn “Neo” Trn back to the Academy team while promoting top laner Lee “Hoon” Jang-hoon and bot laner Trevor “Spawn” Kerr-Taylor to the starting LCS lineup. The organization has also elevated jungler Lawrence “Exyu” Xu to fill the void left by River.

Dignitas’ decision could help them form a strong lineup for the 2023 season, even though it will be difficult, if not impossible, for them to qualify for the playoffs from here on out despite the improvements. The best Dignitas can aspire for is to finish their second split with a 9-9 record with seven games remaining.

Team Dignitas’ current LCS roster:

  • Lee “Hoon” Jang-hoon
  • Trevor “Spawn” Kerr-Taylor
  • Lawrence “Exyu” Xu
  • Vincent “Biofrost” Wang
  • Ersin “Blue” Gören
