Riot Games recently announced that it will be donating money from sales of the Star Guardian Taliyah skin made from July 28 to August 29 to its Social Impact Fund.

Two years ago, Riot raised over $14 million for COVID-19 relief through various League of Legends skins and bundles used as fundraisers. This time around, Riot will again use League of Legends, its most popular title, to add to the millions of dollars already raised for the fund.

Social Impact Fund

Riot created the Social Impact Fund in 2019 and has since used proceeds from its games to help those in need around the world. At the time, Riot said in an official statement: “We created the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, a unique philanthropic venture fund that allows us to invest directly in a variety of global organizations to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.”

In short, this gives Riot along with its players “an easier and more scalable way to make bigger changes around the world.” Since establishing the Social Impact Fund, Riot Games has donated over $4 million to support equality in education, equal opportunity and global citizenship. The company considers the Social Impact Fund its “mature attempt to take our collective impact to the next level and accelerate human progress.”

Star Guardian Taliyah Proceeds go to charity

Star Guardian Taliyah is expected to come to the League servers during the second phase of the Star Guardian event. The first phase the event will be released on July 13th along with the Patch 12.13. The event’s second phase coincides with the timeframe in which the skin will be used for the fundraiser, which follows the release of Patch 12.14 scheduled for July 27. When Taliyah is released, players will be able to purchase the skin and have their contribution added to the Social Impact Fund.

Donations for a good cause

Riot Games seems to be committed to helping in all areas, not only during crisis situations such as the. Among other things the company supports is easier access to STEM, protection of personal and online communities and support of people with different backgrounds. By and large, it is about all sorts of social issues, hence the name Social Impact Fund.

“As a player-centric company, we hope to create gaming experiences that matter to gamers, and we also hope to improve the world they live in by serving the communities we belong to and invest in them,” says Riot on the Social Impact Fund’s homepage.
