Riot Games has announced that Pride-themed rewards are coming to all of its games to celebrate Pride Month, which begins today, June 1.

Today, VALORANT, League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and League of Legends: Wild Rift will receive an update to add rainbow-themed, Pride-related collectable rewards for players to unlock.

Pride-themed rewards

In a statement released May 31, Riot Games revealed that its Pride celebrations would be returning in 2022. The full array of content becomes available today, June 1.

“All of Riot’s games will be celebrating Pride with their own unique content. Most of the content will become available tomorrow, June 1. You can expect new icons, new trails, new player cards, and plenty more across our games.”

The full details of the Pride content for 2022 are yet to be released. However, Riot has revealed a few things already:

  • VALORANT players will be able to equip Pride-themed gun buddies and player cards.
  • League of Legends players will be able to unlock motion trails representing various flags from the LGBT community. There will also be Pride emotes and icons.
  • League of Legends: Wild Rift will also have access to Pride-themed emotes and icons.

Riot celebrates Pride Month

Riot first began releasing Pride content four years ago and has expanded the annual event ever since. Back in 2018, the developer introduced special features to give players from the LGBTQIA+community an in-game representation of their identities. Since then, countless Pride-themed icons, emotes and artwork pieces have been added to Riot’s titles.

The 2022 event also comes after the company was named one of the Human Rights Campaign’s ‘Best Places to Work for LGBT+ Equality in 2022’. As well as launching in-game Pride content, Riot will be participating in Pride Month itself. Most notably, employees from Riot’s headquarters in Los Angeles will take part in the West Hollywood Pride Parade on June 11.

Furthermore, Riot plans to host a series of League of Legends, VALORANT and Wild Rift tournaments in Brazil that will feature players from LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as hold the ‘Virtual March for Pride’ throughout summer for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The event will reportedly encourage participants to engage in various activities focused on physical, mental and social health.
