For all League of Legends players, it’s time to get excited. Finally, We’re getting a new game mode in LoL, and it’s not a leak; it’s an official fact. Finally, Riot Games has listened to its users who have been asking for a new game mode for a long time.

To put it nicely, the start of the 2023 season did not go as Riot had planned. The cinematics was not what fans expected, and the amount of information about the new content was absent. So the community is angry, and now Riot has to try to find a way to calm them down.

New game mode for League of Legends

Riot, released a short video on Friday, January 13, 2023, where we could see Riot Meddler and Riot Brightmoon talking about their lack of clarity with the players. In addition, they commented that they have not been connecting with the community to the level we expect them to.

They also explain why players have not received new content over the past few years. 2022 could probably be the darkest year in terms of new stuff, with the most significant event being another visual novel repeated in the past. As well as not having any new game modes despite the promise of returning Bombardment to the Nexus.

Reav3 had previously announced on Reddit that a large portion of Riot’s game modes team had dispersed. Some group members had reportedly moved on to other projects, such as Teamfight Tactics, or no longer belong to the company. What this means is that there is basically no longer a game modes team.

However, throughout 2022 new members joined the game modes team and are already working on new content. Since the team is entirely new and they have a new line of direction, it has taken them a bit longer to get going. This is why we only received an ARAM update in 2022.

New plans for 2023

Riot has new plans for this 2023, with Riot Meddler and Brightmoon explaining that the team has been testing a new game mode that will put eight players fighting in a 2v2v2v2v2.

They didn’t reveal many details of the new game mode, but on Reddit, Riot Meddler explained that this mode would be part of the big summer event Riot has planned for this year. While the team is not ready for another big Odyssey-style event, they are trying to get to that level bit by bit.

So, all signs point to 2023 being a better year, or at least for League of Legends fans who want more than just skins in a store. We can only hope Riot delivers on these promises to convince the community.
