With the implementation of additional DDoS protections for Apex Legends players at the highest level of ranked play, Respawn Entertainment has solved one of the main problems affecting ranked lobbies.

Apex Legends players have long urged the developers to stop Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks. However, it appears that Respawn Entertainment is finally taking action to address the issue by introducing improved DDOS security for Apex Legends ranked lobbies.

This feature is currently only applicable to Diamond, Master, and Predator lobbies, so public and lower-rank lobbies will remain unaffected. While this may sound disappointing for players not particularly interested in Ranked Mode, the announcement tweet requests feedback from the fan base, implying that more changes are coming to protect Apex Legends from unethical practices.

Lower levels are not covered by DDOS protection, thus it goes without saying that many of the players that work hard to reach these ranks are unhappy. They are joined in their outrage by the Titanfall community, which has been urging Respawn Entertainment to deal with the severe DDOS attacks that have been crippling the game’s servers.

Some people might wonder why Respawn chose against making this available to all Apex Legends players. The simplest explanation would be that the new function requires a lot of resources, and adding it for any lower ranks would be too expensive.

What is DDoS and why is it so important?

Since Apex Legends is fundamentally a competitive game, players are driven to succeed in every match they sign up for, especially in Ranked. While most members of the community play by the rules and rely on their own skills to win, some prefer to employ third-party software to get a significant advantage.

Aimbots and wallhacks are examples of this, but at the very top of Ranked, DDoS attacks are frequently used by the cheater, which effectively disconnects all of the players in a game by disrupting the entire server. Since the game’s release, there have been numerous DDoS assaults on it, making it difficult to play in rated Apex Legends lobby rooms.

The most significant one occurred in August 2022 when a well-coordinated group of Titanfall gamers assaulted Apex in an effort to draw Respawn’s focus back to Titanfall 1 and 2, which itself had become chaotic as a result of DDoS assaults. High-rank Apex Legends players can now breathe a sigh of relief, though, with the new DDos security system in place.

The effectiveness of Respawn’s new DDoS system is still to be determined, but if the results of this initial test are promising, it makes sense that lower levels and public lobbies may soon also have this protection implemented.
