With €120,000 in prizes and 16 participants from the top 100, REPUBLEAGUE Season 3 is one of the most important A-tier tournaments of this summer. The competition started on June 7 and is just a few days away from concluding.

So far, the number one favorite, Fnatic, has done well and will play in the semifinals. There, the Swedish team will encounter Bad News Eagles, an underdog that surprised everyone with their performance.

Group stage results

The group stage of REPUBLEAGUE Season 3 had a simple format — two groups of eight teams each.

The big favorites of Group A were Entropiq and Eternal Fire, but both of them failed to qualify despite the double-elimination format and the fact that three of the eight participants advanced to the playoffs. The winners in this group were ECSTATIC, Bad News Eagles, and ex-MAD Lions.

Group B saw only one surprise, specifically Imperial’s failure to qualify for the second stage of the tournament. Apart from that, everything went according to plan. Fnatic won, which was expected, while forZe finished third. The last qualified team was MOUZ NXT.

Playoffs results

Because they won their respective groups, ECSTATIC and Fnatic advanced directly to the semifinals, where they were waiting for the winners of the quarterfinals.

MOUZ NXT vs. ex-MAD Lions

The clash of MOUZ NXT and ex-MAD Lions should have been a close match between two opponents of comparable strength. While MOUZ NXT are currently 44th in the world’s rankings, ex-MAD Lions are currently ranked 42nd.

However, the situation got quickly out of control for MOUZ NXT, mainly because of the performance of ex-MAD Lion’s Volodymyr “Woro2k” Veletniuk, who had a rating 2.0 of 1.66 and a KD score of +31! His teammate, Justinias “jL” Lekavicius too showed a phenomenal play with 1.43 / +16.

These two players single-handedly won the match for ex-MAD Lions. The score on both maps was 16:10 in their favor.

Bad News Eagles vs. forZe

This was another great match between two teams of similar skill and rank. Most pundits would have said that forZe was going to win, but despite the amazing performance of Alexandr “shalfey” Marenov (1.36 / +22) and Aleksandr “zorte” Zagodyrenko (1.13 / +14), the Russian squad actually lost.

Semifinals predictions

The REPUBLEAGUE Season 3 semifinal matches are scheduled to take place on June 28, starting with Fnatic vs. Bad News Eagles at 16:00 EEST and ECSTATIC vs. ex-MAD Lions at 19:00 EEST.  The outcome here is most likely a victory for Fnatic and one for ex-MAD Lions.
