Rare Atom inch closer to securing another qualification in a major tournament with their recent win over TYLOO to secure their position in the Asia Pacific Regional Major Rankings (RMR). This win will take them to the next round, where they will face 8 other teams for a chance to participate in the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

With the recent conclusion of the massive China Open Qualifiers that saw +8000 teams compete for a spot in the closed qualifiers, 5 teams managed to make it through to the next qualification round, which officially kicked off on 27 Aug 2024 and concluded on 29 Aug 2024. The 5 teams were:

  • Bromo
  • Teamwork
  • SHPL
  • XNL Gaming
  • Steel Helmet

Their qualification took them to the closed qualifiers, where they would meet fierce opposition from the likes of TYLOO, Rare Atom, and CatEvil, who secured their spots through their positions in the Valve Regional Standings.

The closed qualifiers saw fierce competition from all sides involved, culminating in a final showdown between TYLOO and Rare Atom. The final clash saw Rare Atom struggle at first with TYLOO putting on an incredible performance in their map pick Mirage. Rare Atom turned things back around in Inferno, and as they went into Anubis, Rare Atom went absolutely ballistic, defeating TYLOO by a respectable 13-6 margin.

Rare Atom’s performance saw them secure their spot in the Asia RMR along with team Talon, who won the Oceanic Qualifiers against team Rooster earlier this week. This leaves the East Asian Qualifier, Southeast Asian Qualifier, and Middle Eastern Qualifier, which are to be decided in the coming days. As of right now, the teams that are guaranteed to participate in the Asia RMR are:

  • The MongolZ
  • FlyQuest
  • Lynn Vision Gaming
  • Talon
  • Rare Atom

Rare Atom seem to be having a spectacular year, and with the way things are going, they might just be able to secure their position in the Perfect World Shanghai Major. The MongolZ are currently the best team in Asia based on popular opinion and are the team to beat going into the major, especially with their recent dominant performances.

Rare Atom this year have managed to lock in a qualification for IEM Rio 2024 through their win at the IEM Rio 2024 Asia Closed Qualifier against TYLOO, CatEvil, and ATOX Esports. This performance, coupled with their win at the Open Qualifiers for the Shanghai Major, just goes to show that their recent form is not just a fluke but an incredible indicator of their skill and potential.

Rare Atom has an uphill task in competing with some of the best-ranked teams in Asia, with the likes of Flyquest and Lynn Vision Gaming also vying for that top-3 finish. A top-3 finish will see them secure their first major qualification, which will mark an incredible milestone for them having spent a majority of their time playing second fiddle to the likes of TYLOO, who have significantly more pedigree on the international stage.
