The first two teams for the November Major are set! BDS have mounted an insurmountable lead and Virtus.pro have gotten lucky with the pairings for the last play-day.

Even though many teams have enough points to surpass Virtus.Pro, the structure of the last play-day makes it impossible for VP to drop out. Secret, Empire, G2 and Tempra are all still in reach of the Top 4. But Secret and Empire will face each other, which means that only one team can actually catch up to VP in the Top 4. The same holds true for G2 and Tempra. So Virtus.pro have at least secured a fourth place, but they can still achieve a better placement through a win versus BDS.

BDS ARE GUARANTEED THE TOP SPOT

Yesterday, the Frenchmen managed to demolish G2 and have secured 19 points in the league standings. They’ve gotten up to the score they had in Stage 1 (tied alongside Rogue, back then) and may be able to surpass it as well. Stephane “Shaiiko” Lebleu earned himself a 1.65 rating versus G2 and was the deciding factor in their 7-3 victory.

BDS are back on their feet and can leave behind their surprise loss to Natus Vincere. The stars of the roster are bringing the heat. Shaiiko and company give the impression that they’re playing for the best European team once again. While it did initially appear as though Secret could contest BDS’s first place ambitions early in this stage, this perception has faded in recent days.

LAST CHANCE FOR SECRET AND G2

Secret dropped in the standings following their 6-6 tie versus VP and after their loss to Tempra, they now have to fear for their Major slot. Will Peter “pacbull” Bull and his players really choke on the last stretch? The team is obviously not as well-tuned as many of their European colleagues just yet and most Secret players haven’t dealt with the pressure of competing for a Major spot before. Maybe their nerves are going haywire in the last match, but nonetheless they can look back on a successful Stage 2, considering they landed on second-to-last place in Stage 1.

G2, on the other hand, would be incredibly disappointed if they were to lose out on the Major. But in contrast to Secret, they have had solid matches in the last week. It was no shocker to see them lose out to BDS and they’ve kept up a good show. In Tempra, they have a relatively weak opponent lined up for the last play-day. Unlike Secret, they seem to have their nerves under control. So we should ready ourselves for a Major appearance by G2.

ROGUE IN RELEGATION TERRITORY

It’s hard to believe, but Rogue have to fear for their place in EUL. Following an excellent Stage 1 run, they have fallen from grace. Playing without Maurice “AceeZ” Erkelenz, they couldn’t succeed against any other team and despite his return, they haven’t recovered their form. So if they lose next week versus Natus Vincere, they will fall to second-to-last place of the overall season. Once there, they’ll have to win against Challenger League teams in a relegation tournament, otherwise they will wave goodbye to the European League.

Two Major slots are still up for grabs and four teams are fighting for those. Other rosters already have one foot in Challenger League and desperately try to keep themselves afloat. The ninth play-day of EUL promises to deliver exciting action up to the very last second.
