PUBG Mobile Unfail Mode Guide: Gameplay Mechanics, Roles, Maps Explained

fragster James Steward 26. September 2025

PUBG Mobile’s new update version 4.0 includes a new asymmetric survivor experience called “Unfail.” In Unfail, one player has to go up against an entire team, whose goal is to escape.

Game Overview

Unfail mode has officially live as a part of PUBG Mobile’s version 4.0 from September 26, 2025. There is not an end date at the moment so Unfail may be a new permanent game mode. Unfail is playable on both Android and iOS. Players just need to hit the google play store or app store, to download or update PUBG Mobile to play Unfail.

Your Objective

Survivors have one objective: to activate five of eight terminals on the map, which leads to an escape at the exit gate. A minimum of three Survivors has to escape for the Survivors to win. Only two escapes mean a draw, and if 1 or 0 escape then the Predator wins. Both sides have two chances to respawn, not adding pressure to communicate, coordinate, and respond quickly.

Roles & Mechanics

Survivors

Roles & Mechanics

  • Terminal Activation: Activating a Terminal activates a Quick-Time Event (or “QTE”). While completing the QTE will allow the survivor to make progress in the match, they risk exposing themselves to Predator.
  • Teamwork: Survivors can pick up a teammate who has been downed, but communication and planning are necessary
  • Special Skills: At the beginning of a match, each Survivor will randomly receive a single special skill that allows them to counter Predator in some way: Stun Gun: Stun predator for a short duration. Jet Gauntlets: Provides a boost of speed while vaulting over obstacles. AED (Anti-Radiation Device): Allows the Survivor to revive a teammate with full health, while carrying a teammate, the survivor will experience a speed boost.
  • Wrench: Provides a speed boost when activating the terminal.
  • Combat Strategy: Shooting predator will deplete its health bar and will stun it for a short duration; when predator is stunned, it may present a window for a terminal activation.

Predator

  • Objective: Hunt and stop Survivors from escaping.
  • Abilities: Starts with Hook Attack, Invisible Trap, and Stealth Mode. As the game goes, Predator gains skills like grappling hooks to control maps.
  • Downed State: Captured Survivors are downed instead of killed, letting teammates rescue them.
  • Tactical Tips: Focus on isolating Survivors, watch their moves near Terminals, and use abilities to control map areas.

The Unfail mode occurs in a power station subdivided into four zones: Lab, Canteen, Courtyard and Warehouse – each region further subdivided into two Terminals. Players can strategically use obstacles around the environment and interactable objects to help confirm, slow down, or mislead the Predator. Survivors win if they can get at least three players out, they draw the game if only two players escape, and the Predator wins if he/she eliminates all Survivors or governs off all escape routes.

Strategic Tips & Cultural Representation

  • For Survivors: Attempt to activate your terminals at more “inconspicuous” locations (i.e. you can’t activate canteen terminals outside).  Use the environmental obstacles to create more “time” to catch the Predator, especially when they are blocking off escape routes. Work as a collaborative team (all survivors) to escape and activate terminals at the same time.
  • For the predator, try to approach/separate survivors, note when a terminal is activated, and block escape routes by controlling choke points and high traffic spots.

PUBG Mobile introduced some items that reflect the African culture (e.g.  Zulu male avatar inspired by South African heritage, an avatar frame for Nigeria Independence Day, gifts inspired by Kenyan beads, a spray for South African Heritage Day, etc.). These items allow the players to project their identity, as nationalities are represented in the game. Keep in mind you will need to be active in terms of planning, reacting and making decisions, regardless of if you are Survivor or Predator.
