PUBG Mobile has revealed that the PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) 2025 will be held in Uzbekistan, marking the first international esports event in Central Asia.

James Yang, Senior Director of Global Esports Center at Level Infinite, made the announcement at Gamescom LATAM.

PMGO 2025: A New Chapter for Central Asian Esports

The PMGO, introduced in 2024 with its first edition in Brazil, allows players to qualify for international competition through open qualifiers, earning its title “Global Open.” Based on data from global esports statistics provider Esports Charts, the 2024 event saw peak viewership of 513,000, showcasing its popularity.

The tournament’s move to Uzbekistan aligns with PUBG Mobile’s strategy to expand into new markets. Despite the exact venue and schedule yet to be confirmed, the event is expected to take place in early 2025, similar to this year’s format.

Expanding PUBG Mobile’s esports landscape

The introduction of the PMGO came alongside significant changes to PUBG Mobile’s esports ecosystem, including the establishment of partnered leagues across SEA, EMEA, Americas, and Central/South Asia. These changes have created a more exclusive competitive environment, making the PMGO a crucial opportunity for tier 2 teams to compete at the highest level.

Uzbekistan’s selection as the host country underscores PUBG Mobile’s commitment to growing esports in new regions. The country has an existing regional PUBG Mobile ecosystem, highlighted by the Uzbekistan Cup, in partnership with the Uzbekistan Cybersport Association and BIGPLAY.GG.

PUBG Mobile’s ongoing esports success

PUBG Mobile continues to be a major player in the esports world, featuring prominently at events like the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, with a $3 million prize pool for its PUBG Mobile World Cup 2024.

Yang emphasized that the PMGO will help tap into new esports markets, demonstrating PUBG Mobile’s global reach and ambition.
