Pokemon TCG Introduces Exciting Mega Legendary Pokemon Card

The Pokemon TCG has revealed its next Japanese expansion, Munikis Zero, featuring Mega Zygarde as the centerpiece. The set continues the Mega Evolution era and draws heavily from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, showing that Mega Evolutions remain a major focus.

After returning to the TCG in 2016, Mega Evolution has already brought new cards for Pokemon like Charizard, Lucario, and Gardevoir. Munikis Zero adds Mega Zygarde, hinting that more Legendary Mega Evolutions could be introduced in the future.

Mega Zygarde Headlines the Munikis Zero Set

In a recent livestream preview, The Pokemon Company gave fans a closer look at some of the cards coming in Munikis Zero. Right in the spotlight is Mega Zygarde EX, which is designed to be a strong card in battles. One of its attacks can reduce damage taken from opponents, while another can deal very heavy damage. This makes Mega Zygarde ex look especially good for Fighting-type strategies.

Mega Zygarde isn’t the only new ex Pokemon shown. Meowth ex was also revealed, playing more of a support role by letting players search their deck for Supporter cards. New cards for Binacle and Barbaracle were previewed, too, both seeming focused on helping Energy management for Fighting-type decks.

Trainer Cards and Legends: Z-A Influence

Munikis Zero is also bringing in a bunch of new Trainer cards inspired by characters and places from Pokemon Legends: Z-A. During the reveal, two new Supporter cards were highlighted: Naveen and Tarragon. Naveen lets players refresh or reset their hand, while Tarragon is more about getting Fighting Pokemon and Energy cards back from the discard pile. Both cards seem designed to help in longer matches.

The set also adds a new Stadium card based on Lumiose City. This card lets either player put a Basic Pokemon from their deck onto the Bench, but it comes with the trade-off of ending their turn immediately. On top of that, a new Special Energy card for Fighting Pokemon was shown, which stops non-damage effects from opponent attacks, giving the archetype an extra layer of defense.

Pokémon TCG Mega Legendary Pokemon Card Release Schedule

Munikis Zero is planned to be released in Japan on January 23. There hasn’t been an official word yet about the English version. If the usual gap between Japanese and global releases holds, it will probably launch worldwide around late March or early April 2026.

The Pokemon TCG already has more in store for early 2026. The Ascended Heroes expansion will introduce new Mega Evolutions for the Pokemon Legends: Z-A starter Pokemon. It’s also bringing back popular mechanics from 2025, like Stellar Tera Pokemon and Trainer’s Pokémon, along with a brand-new Mega Attack Rare rarity.
