Pokémon GO Fest 2026 is getting one final major event before the summer ends. The newly announced Mega Finale will run worldwide on September 5 and 6, putting Mega Evolution at the center of two days of raids, rotating habitats and progression rewards.
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will headline the weekend, while Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox and Mega Greninja will become obtainable through a new branching progression system. The main event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on both days.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y headline the finale
The biggest attraction will be the return of Mega Mewtwo.
Mega Mewtwo X will appear in Super Mega Raids on Saturday, September 5, while Mega Mewtwo Y takes over on Sunday, September 6. Mewtwo caught through these encounters can also come with a special Mega Evolution-themed background.
The weekend is designed around large-scale raid activity rather than limiting Mega Mewtwo to a small portion of the player base. Pokémon GO will remove the Remote Raid limit entirely during September 5 and 6, allowing players to participate in substantially more raids from a distance.
The major raid features include:
- Mega Mewtwo X in Super Mega Raids on September 5
- Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raids on September 6
- No Remote Raid limit during the Mega Finale weekend
All Mega-Evolved Pokémon will also receive an additional CP boost during the two-day event.
Chesnaught, Delphox and Greninja get Mega Evolutions
Mega Mewtwo is not the only important addition. Pokémon GO is also introducing Mega Evolutions for all three fully evolved Kalos starter Pokémon.
Players will choose between Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie through a branching Timed Research storyline. That decision determines which progression path and Mega Evolution rewards they receive during the event.

The free GO Pass will provide enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve the chosen partner once. Players who upgrade to the Deluxe version can earn additional Mega Energy and work toward increasing that Pokémon’s Mega Level further.
For collectors, the arrival of three new Mega Evolutions makes the Mega Finale significantly more important than a weekend built around returning Mega Mewtwo raids alone.
Mega Ascension starts before the main event
The Mega Finale will actually begin developing several days before September 5.
A Mega Ascension period is scheduled from August 31 through September 4. During that time, Mega Raids will dominate much of the raid rotation, with different Pokémon appearing across the week. Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite and Mega Malamar are scheduled for August 31, followed by Mega Falinks, Mega Skarmory and Mega Starmie on subsequent days. Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y are planned for September 4.
Mega Latias and Mega Latios can also appear throughout the Mega Ascension period.
Players preparing for the finale will receive several additional opportunities:
- Remote Raid limit increased to 30 from August 31 through September 4
- Mega Raid Pokémon can receive special Mega Evolution backgrounds
- Branching Timed Research unlocks the chosen Kalos starter path
The structure effectively turns the Mega Finale into a full week of Mega-focused gameplay rather than an isolated two-day event.
GO Pass connects the entire event
The GO Pass: Mega Finale becomes available on August 31 and acts as the central progression system for the event.
Players earn GO Points through activities such as winning Mega Raids and can increase their rank to unlock encounters, Candy, Candy XL, Stardust, XP and Mega Energy. The chosen Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie determines several of those rewards.
The free track reaches Rank 100 for its major milestone progression, but players can continue collecting repeat rewards up to Rank 600.
The Deluxe version adds benefits including additional Candy and Candy XL from Mega Raids, bonus XP, increased Shiny opportunities for selected Pokémon and Mega Raid bosses, an avatar shirt based on the selected Kalos starter evolution and more Mega Energy.
Assessment
Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale looks positioned as one of the year’s most raid-heavy global events.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y provide an obvious headline attraction, but introducing Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox and Mega Greninja gives players something genuinely new to pursue. The branching GO Pass also creates a reason to make an individual choice rather than simply completing an identical checklist.
The unrestricted Remote Raids during the main weekend should also make Mega Mewtwo considerably more accessible to players without large local groups.
From a wider perspective, the event reinforces Mega Evolution as a major part of Pokémon GO’s current endgame loop. Whether the new Kalos Megas become particularly valuable for raids or other parts of the meta will depend on their final performance in practice, but collectors and Mega-focused players already have a busy first week of September ahead.
