Pokémon GO Battle League New Updates, Rewards, and Battle Strategies

A new season titled “Wonnige Tage” has started in Pokémon GO, bringing with it a variety of updates and events. Alongside the seasonal activities and GO Fest, the GO Battle League is launching its latest season, which begins on June 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

This season comes with multiple cups, special battle weekends, and newly introduced moves. Player ranks in the GO Battle League are reset at the start of the season, but the process for ranking up remains unchanged. Players can also claim a free seasonal pass in the in-game shop, allowing participation in limited-time research activities that offer Stardust and battle items as rewards.

Schedule for GO Battle League: Sunny Days

During the “Sunny Days” season, the GO Battle League features a rotating selection of Cups, each offering unique rules and formats. All leagues and Cups start and end at 22:00 CEST on the specified dates.

Weekly Cup Rotation:

  • Multiple formats such as the Super League, Hyper League, and Master League become available throughout the period.
  • Special themed Cups include the Sunshine Cup, Fossil Cup, Summer Cup, Element Cup (Mini-Edition), Hisui Cup, and Catch Cup.
  • Some editions are exclusive to a particular league, for instance, the Sunshine Cup is tied to the Super League format.

Leagues marked with an asterisk () grant four times the standard amount of Stardust for victories, excluding end-of-set rewards.

Battles reflect different competitive styles and rules based on the format. The bonus Stardust gives players extra value during certain weeks, encouraging participation across all formats. The shifting lineup keeps the gameplay experience varied from week to week.

GO Battle Weekend: Joyful Days

Between August 15th at midnight and August 17th, 2025, at 11:59 PM local time, players can participate in the GO Battle Weekend event, bringing a range of battle-themed bonuses and special encounters. Throughout this event, trainers receive four times the usual Stardust for victories, except for the rewards given after a full set of battles. This increase encourages participation and rewards dedication.

The daily limit for battle sets is expanded from five to twenty, allowing up to 100 battles per day. This adjustment gives competitive players more opportunities to progress and earn rewards. A limited research challenge is available during the event, offering exclusive avatar items such as shoes inspired by a prominent Battle Tower Trainer.

Battle League rewards are modified for this weekend, with Pokémon rewards featuring a wider range of attack, defense, and HP individual values. Certain Pokémon may be encountered as guaranteed rewards upon reaching specific ranks during the season, with a chance to meet their shiny versions:

Trainers may also encounter a selection of seasonal Pokémon beginning at specified ranks. These include Paldean Wooper, Spoink, Seel, Scorbunny, Skorupi, Skwovet, Barboach, Feebas, Inkay, Cetoddle, Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak, Pancham, as well as active Tier 5 Raid Bosses. Some of these encounters offer a chance of being shiny.

At rank 20 and above, the Pokémon (or Ultra Beast) featured in current Tier 5 raids may also appear as a reward. The extended battle opportunities and enhanced rewards give players various goals to pursue during the event.

Pass for a Timed GO Battle League Research

Players can claim a free pass in the in-game shop, unlocking access to a special timed research event. Rewards include StardustXL Rare Candy, a Top Fast TM, and a Top Charged TM. The offer is available for a limited duration.

Changes to Moves

Additional modifications include a reduced chance for Crunch to lower the opponent’s defense and Wrap now always lowering the opponent’s defense. Parabolic Charge now costs less energy and will reliably boost the user’s defense after use.

Newly Learnable Moves

Several Pokémon have recently gained access to new moves, expanding their battle capabilities. Notable additions include both Fast and Charged Attacks tailored to specific species.

Pokémon such as Beedrill, Arbok, and the Nido family can now use Poison Sting, offering quicker energy gain in battles. Raichu and its Alolan counterpart benefit from Surf as a new Charged Attack, providing increased coverage against various types.

Fury Cutter is now available for Metang, Metagross, and Kleavor, improving their ability to charge up powerful moves rapidly. Meanwhile, Lickitung and Milotic can now utilize Wrap as a Charged Attack, adapting their playstyles.

Fast Attacks like Metal Sound have been added to Pokémon including Galarian Meowth, Aron, Lairon, Aggron, and Perrserker, supporting more varied strategies. The introduction of Thunder Shock to Pawmi, Pawmo, and Pawmot offers new electric-type options for these Pokémon.

Flying-type moves have been expanded, with Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, as well as Lugia, now able to learn Fly as a Charged Attack. These updates contribute to a wider range of possible tactics for both Trainer Battles and raids.

Players can explore updated information about Timed Research tasks, recent wild Pokémon appearances, and new Egg hatches during this seasonal period. Notable highlights include the introduction of Boltund and the addition of more Dynamax Pokémon in raids.
