Following the July 2025 Pokémon Presents broadcast, the frenzy over Pokémon Champions have increased once more. Though the official information is already available, the leaks that emerged previously began circulating again, and players are more eager to know more about the gameplay, the release time and the business part of it.
2026 Release and Core Gameplay Systems Confirmed

Pokémon Champions is now officially announced to be coming out in 2026. It’ll be on Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, plus mobile devices like iOS and Android. During the event, The Pokémon Company along with Nintendo showed off a few things.
Victory Points were shown to be the currency used for getting and training Pokémon. There’s also going to be Pokémon HOME connection, so players can bring in Pokémon from previous games. You’ll have different types of battles too—ranked, casual, and private, all of them planned to be there right from the start.
This all kinda sets up the idea that the game will be focused on competitive battling, maybe even more than other spin-offs have done in the past.
Leak Details Align with Official Reveal
A lot of the stuff from the older leaks actually lines up with what was shared now. Nintendo Everything and GameFAQs already had talked about how Pokémon Champions was gonna start with around 350 Pokémon, and more will be added later by seasons.
The same leaks also said the game would be free to download and pointed to a release on January 23, 2026. That date hasn’t been confirmed yet, though. Still, since some of the leaks were right, it makes the rest of it feel more believable too.
There were also details about ranked seasons, casual battles, and different tiers similar to Battle Frontier. Casual mode might allow rental teams but the ranked probably won’t.
Some special challenges were brought up, too:
- Battles with fixed levels (like 50 or 100)
- Rules based on Pokémon types
- Nuzlocke-style gameplay where Pokémon who faint can’t be used again until the run is over
None of that has been confirmed officially, but it’s been talked about a lot lately, so people are hoping some of it makes it into the game.
Select Pokémon Only at Launch
Nintendo Life has reported that not all Pokémon will be available at the beginning, only a certain selection. Even though Pokémon HOME will work with the game, the full roster won’t be there from day one. That goes with the earlier number of 350 Pokémon being available first, which suggests more might come later on in updates.
Some players don’t mind this, though. A lot of comments on Reddit pointed out that most competitive formats don’t use every Pokémon anyway. So for some, this number is actually kind of normal.
Unconfirmed Features Still Under Discussion
Even if some of the leaks were right, a few things still haven’t been mentioned in official places. Features like:
- Custom outfits for your character
- Gym Leaders appearing during events
- Unique challenges like type-based battles and Nuzlocke rules
- Whether there’ll be microtransactions or some kind of shop
Although these ideas have not been verified, we can only assume them to be such until the day Nintendo speaks out.
Pokémon Champions had already attracted a number of people to look at it with great interest. It is implementing a few mechanics that are familiar to the players combined with bringing new things into the competition. A roster that is still small, but has room to expand, and Victory Points along with support of HOME make it appear that the developers are creating it with a very long run in mind.
The only thing that fans are now waiting is more updates. We can only hope that we will get to see more of it in future Nintendo Directs or any other announcement before the day of the actual release.
