Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a double State of Play event for September 3, with two broadcasts airing consecutively and featuring updates from PlayStation Studios, third-party publishers and developers across Japan and Asia.
The presentation begins at 3:00 PM CEST with the standard State of Play. Sony has already confirmed that the show will conclude with an extended look at Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation. State of Play Japan will follow immediately afterward with additional announcements and gameplay focused on Japanese and Asian studios.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation gets extended showcase
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation is currently the only game specifically confirmed for the main presentation.
Sony says State of Play will conclude with an extended look at the game’s world, suggesting Revelation will receive considerably more screen time than a conventional trailer appearance.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will serve as the centerpiece of the September 3 State of Play.
The game represents the final chapter of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake project and is currently planned for PlayStation 5 in spring 2027.
Previous footage has already shown Cloud and his companions traveling aboard the Highwind alongside larger environments and some of the massive Weapons connected to the original Final Fantasy VII storyline.

State of Play Japan follows immediately
Sony is also bringing back State of Play Japan immediately after the international show.
Voice actor Yuki Kaji will once again host the regional presentation. Unlike the first broadcast, State of Play Japan will concentrate specifically on games developed by studios in Japan and elsewhere in Asia.
Sony has promised new gameplay, announcements and deeper looks at upcoming projects.

The decision to run both shows together gives Sony a larger announcement window than a conventional standalone State of Play.

Several upcoming PS5 games could receive updates
Sony has not confirmed any additional games for September 3, so potential appearances should remain treated as speculation.
The company nevertheless has a busy upcoming PS5 schedule. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 4, while Control Resonant is currently planned for September 24. Marvel’s Wolverine has also recently received new gameplay and development details.
Other previously announced PlayStation projects could theoretically appear, but Sony has provided no indication that any particular title beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be shown.
That distinction is important ahead of State of Play events, where fan expectations can quickly grow beyond what Sony has actually promised.
Sony warns creators about copyrighted music
PlayStation has also issued its usual warning for streamers and content creators planning to co-stream the presentations.
The broadcasts may contain licensed music that Sony does not control. As a result, copyright agreements could potentially interfere with livestreams or archived versions of reaction videos.
Creators planning to upload highlights or preserve their broadcast as a VOD are advised to avoid including copyrighted music where possible.
This does not prevent co-streaming, but it is worth considering for creators producing coverage immediately after the presentation.
Assessment
Running State of Play and State of Play Japan back-to-back gives Sony a strong opportunity to set up the final months of 2026 while also looking ahead to its 2027 lineup.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is clearly the biggest confirmed attraction. An extended showcase should reveal significantly more than a short trailer and could provide important information about the final chapter’s world, combat and structure.
State of Play Japan adds another layer of unpredictability. Sony has confirmed gameplay and announcements from Asian developers but has deliberately kept the lineup secret.
For now, expectations should remain centered on what is actually confirmed.
