Dota 2 used to have a thriving professional scene with dozens of tournaments that offered $3 million, $1 million, or at least $300.000 in prize money. Teams would often be forced to skip a big event just because they couldn’t be in two places at the same time.
But in recent years, all of that changed. We now have very few tournaments per year and most of them have modest prize pools. This makes an event series like Pinnacle Cup: Malta Vibes more than welcome.
It may not have the grandeur of past Dota 2 tournaments, but it’s prestigious enough to matter and to give fans something exciting to watch.
Details about Pinnacle Cup: Malta Vibes
The series will invite dozens of European and CIS teams and will feature four events in total. Each of these events has a prize pool of $50.000. The competitions will be hosted by Eden Esports, which is looking to make an international name for itself as a tournament organizer.
Locally, Eden is a highly respected company. But few people know about them outside of Malta.

The location of the series is perfect. Keep in mind that these events will not be held online, at least not from start to finish. They will be LANs, which means that the teams will get the opportunity to enjoy themselves in Malta. The country’s weather is amazing 80% of the time, which makes it a perfect location for esports tournaments.
Games like CS:GO regularly have important tournaments there and the atmosphere is always electric.
A tournament lasts for around two weeks and the format is single-elimination. There are 40 participants in total and each team is invited by the organizer. However, eight of those teams start the tournament in round 3. The other 32 start in round 1. This means that the top teams get the respect they deserve and can skip the first two matches.

For each victory with the exception of round 1, the winning team receives a decent reward:
- Round 2: $1000
- Round 3: $1000
- Quarterfinals: $2000
- Semifinals: $2000
- Final: $16.000
Each event features 39 best-of-three matches. Given that there are four events in total, that’s 156 matches to enjoy as a Dota 2 fan, over a period of eight weeks.
Given that the year has 52 weeks and that only half of them feature Dota Pro Circuit matches, there’s plenty of room in the calendar for events like the ones from the Pinnacle Cup: Malta Vibes series. The action starts at the end of this month.
