Several prominent esports and gaming personalities have mobilized to assist their fellow Filipinos. Content creator Elyson Caranza, widely known as GHOST Wrecker, and his team have been actively involved in rescue operations. They navigated the floodwaters of Araneta Village in Malabon, deploying four boats capable of transporting eight people each. They also reached out to the community for additional support, including ropes for their rescue efforts. Wrecker utilized his social media platforms to call for more volunteers, posting:
“Sino pa may kilalang pwede mag rescue diyan? May apat na bangka pa ako dito, at saka lifevest 20pcs. Pahinga ko lang team ko. Need lang more rescuers along Malabon,” translating to a plea for additional rescuers and resources.
Aurora’s Royal Duo, Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna and Danerie James “Wise” Del Rosario, have also contributed significantly. They received and managed community donations to support relief efforts. Wise shared updates on their fundraising efforts and provided instructions for those interested in contributing. Together with V33nus, they prepared relief goods for distribution to affected communities.
Streamers Offer Financial Support
Gamer and streamer Setsuna “Akosi Dogie” Ignacio announced his intention to contribute to the relief efforts through his live stream. He committed to donating an amount equivalent to his stream’s losses and winnings, emphasizing his support for flood victims in his social media post:
“Mga guys mamayang live ko, kung magkano na talo ko, ganun halaga ibibigay natin sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo at kung magkano napanalo ko ayun din ibibigay natin na tulong sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo. INGAT PO KAYO AT MAG DASAL PO MGA KABABAYAN,” which translates to a commitment to donate based on his stream’s outcome.
In addition to individual efforts, esports organization Team Secret has played a role in spreading awareness and encouraging responsible actions. They posted emergency contact numbers from government agencies on their social media channels and highlighted the importance of caring for pets during such crises.
The response from the gaming community underscores the enduring Bayanihan spirit in the Philippines, where collective effort and solidarity shine through in times of crisis. The contributions from these notable figures in the gaming world offer hope and practical aid to those affected by Typhoon Carina, inspiring others to join in the relief efforts.
