PGL Wallachia S1 Round 3 Results

fragster Radu M. 13. May 2024

The group stage of PGL Wallachia S1 is about to enter the fourth round of matches. So far, HEROIC and Azure Ray have been eliminated while Team Falcons and Xtreme Gaming, the best two teams of the past few months, have qualified for the playoffs.

The competitive format is the Swiss System, which means that the eliminated teams lost their first three matches while the qualified teams won them. What’s strange is what happened to some of the other participants. Team Liquid are currently just one step away from elimination, while BOOM Esports, Aurora, and Shopify Rebellion need one more victory to advance.

The 2 W – 0 L Bracket

In the 2 – 0 bracket, Xtreme Gaming played against Aurora and dominated both games from start to finish. The heroes they picked offered then amazing scaling and late-game potential. Because of this, Aurora played not just against Xtreme but also against time.

In game 1, Storm Spirit and Faceless Void were unstoppable after the 30-minute mark. In game 2, the Spectre plus Zeus combination proved to be deadly. Even though Aurora had heroes that could have won the game in 20 minutes, they were unable to execute their game plan correctly.

In the other match, played between Gaimin Gladiators and Team Falcons, Gladiators looked like they had a very clear game plan, at least in the first two games. They won the first one using a combination of range and mobility. Their heroes were Sniper, Crystal Maiden, Clockwerk, Weaver, and Brewmaster. The game ended after just 33 minutes.

In game 2, Gladiators tried an almost identical strategy but this time, Falcons were much better prepared. They picked Timbersaw and Dragon Knight to make sure that they had great initiation capabilities and enough armor to survive Sniper’s attacks, and then took Zeus to ensure that they also had enough damage to bring down any target in seconds.

The match was decided in the third game. Gladiators tried a Faceless Void plus Templar Assassin combo, but they were severely countered by Falcons, who weren’t afraid to pick Venomancer and Gyrocopter.

The 1 W – 1 L Bracket

Liquid should have easily won their match against Shopify Rebellion but they ended up losing 0 – 2 after being outdrafted and then outplayed in the mid portion of the games. Game 1 lasted 35 minutes, while game 2 was over after 25. Despite picking Brewmaster and Enigma, they could keep Rebellion away from their towers.

BetBoom Team did not encounter any problems against MOUZ and practically won both games in the first 15 minutes. Each time, they picked Doom and Morphling, and then made excellent use of them. MOUZ tried an armor-shred strategy in game 1, picking Templar Assassin, Slardar, and Chaos Knight. But their picks proved to be too greedy for the draft to work.

Team Spirit played a good match against nouns. Fly and his crew were expected to pose a lot of problems but they couldn’t do much against Spirit’s drafts, which were designed to reach power spikes early and then dominate the map. Both times, Miposhka picked Dark Willow.

In game 1, a Sven plus Magnus combination was used and it worked really well. In game two, it was all about outmaneuvering the opponent using heroes like Weaver and Mars.

Team Secret were supposed to win this match but their drafts in game 1 and game 3 were absolutely bizarre. Because of this, they lost after failing to secure key objectives in the early game.

The second game of the match was the most exciting to watch. It lasted almost 77 minutes and was a battle between a farmed TA and a farmed Weaver. Weaver eventually lost because the matchup heavily favored the other side. But the battle raged for more than an hour. It seems that going high-ground against an Enigma is very difficult in the current meta.

The 0 W – 2 L Bracket

Initially, Azure Ray’s poor result against nouns looked like a fluke. But as the days went on, we realized that it wasn’t. The Chinese team is in very bad shape at the moment and it’s not entirely clear why.

In their final match of PGL Wallachia Season 1, they played against a regional opponent, G2.iG, and lost 1 – 2 despite winning game 1. A lot of familiar heroes were picked in this match: Doom, Weaver, Timbersaw, Enigma, Morphling, Slardar, Enchantress, Razor, Sven, Batrider, Leshrac, and so on. This battle was as close to the current meta as it could be.

In the second match of this bracket, HEROIC had one last chance against Virtus.pro but ended up losing very quickly. Game 1 was over in 24 minutes while game 2 lasted less than 38. VP abused two well-known early game strategies, using heroes like Viper, Leshrac, Chen, Alchemist, and Batrider.
