PGL Arlington Major 2022 will be the final Dota Pro Circuit Major of this season. Based on its results, the world’s top 12 Dota 2 teams will be determined and we will finally know who gets the direct invites to The International 2022.
This will be a very unusual Major, thanks in part to the fact that many teams will play with stand-ins. Xtreme Gaming will miss the competition and will not be replaced, so group B features just eight participants instead of nine.

PGL Arlington Major details
The Arlington Major is scheduled to run between August 4-14. The tournament will have two stages — groups and playoffs.
The group stage starts on August 4 and lasts until August 8. The format used for this stage is a single round-robin, with every match being best-of-two. The top four teams from each group advance to the upper bracket. Meanwhile, two more teams advance to the lower bracket, where they will wait for the losers of the first round of the upper bracket.
During the playoffs, every match is best-of-three except for the Grand Final, which will be best-of-five.
Schedule
The venue of the tournament is Esports Stadium in Arlington in Texas, North America. This means that the matches start late if you’re living in Europe or Asia and run until the early morning hours. Every day, the first match is scheduled to begin either at 5 pm CEST or 7 pm CEST.

Points and prizes
The participants will be rewarded in the following way:
- 1st place: $200,000 / 820 points
- 2nd place: $100,000 / 740 points
- 3rd place: $75,000 / 670 points
- 4th place: $50,000 / 590 points
- 5th-6th place: $25,000 / 515 points
- 7th-8th place: $12,500 / 360 points
The remaining participants receive nothing. This is an unpopular way of doing things because it basically means that more than half of the teams will get no compensation for entertaining the spectators and being part of the action. Furthermore, they will have all kinds of expenses that are probably not covered by the organizer.
Dota 2 has been criticized for not having a professional circuit that’s economically viable for new teams that may want to try to play the game professionally. And PGL is not helping here with this kind of prize pool distribution.
