Paper Rex Get Revenge On Gen.G To Win VCT Pacific Stage 1

The re-addition of Jinggg has proved to be what Paper Rex needed to reclaim their crown as Asia’s best team. The Southeast Asian mix has defeated Gen.G in a five-map series in the Grand Final of VCT Pacific Stage 1.

Though the top three finishers will all get invitations to the following international event, VCT Masters Shanghai, first place in Stage 1 is important for circuit points, which is crucial for increasing the chances of qualifying to future events.

The series between the two teams went the distance, requiring all five maps in the Best of 5.

Map 1 – Lotus

Paper Rex picked Lotus as the first battleground. Despite starting on the offense on such an attacker-sided map, they could only manage six rounds at the end of the half. Gen.G’s star player, t3xtrue, was a menace on defense.

In the second half, t3xture, Munchkin, and Karon combined their impact to have a relatively clean attacking side, winning the map 13-9.

Map 2 – Sunset

On Gen.G’s pick of Sunset, the South Korean roster won the pistol round and converted the second. However, Paper Rex posted seven straight rounds, and the half ended 7-5 after a rock-solid defense from Jinggg.

Gen.G won the second pistol round of the map and again converted the bonus, but Jinggg continued putting his team on his back. The Singaporean had twelve kills and only five deaths in the second half, three of which were first bloods. Paper Rex won the map 13-9.

Map 3 – Icebox

The third map, Icebox, was a battle of the Jett players. Paper Rex could win the first half 7-5 on their offense after getting eight out of twelve first bloods, three each from Jinggg and something.

However, the game continued to be super close, as t3xture’s Jett was online. Still, f0rsaken and something were on their A-game on defense, and Paper Rex managed to steal Icebox after a 13-11 ending score. The Russian import ended the map with eight first blood, while f0rsaken was the highest-rated player overall.

Map 4 – Bind

The start of Bind looked good for Paper Rex, as they were looking to close the series in four. They won the pistol round and quickly built a 7-2 lead. However, the impact from Munchkin’s Viper allowed Gen.G to end the half 5-7.

Paper Rex was sent to their defensive side. Bind, being an attacker-sided map, allowed Gen.G to easily sweep the second half and win the map 13-8. Jinggg’s Raze, who went 23/15/4, was not enough to carry Paper Rex to a quick finish.

Map 5 – Split

On the decider, Split, Gen.G took off to a convincingly 7-3 lead on their defensive campaign, but Paper Rex could salvage the half 7-5 after impactful rounds from something’s Jett. Gen.G lost their momentum and began to crumble.

The South Korean squad lost eight out of nine rounds in the second half, losing the map 13-8, and conceding the win to Paper Rex.

The player with the highest rating at the end of the series was t3xture’s Jett, posting 1.23. He had over a hundred kills throughout five games, with a KDA of 105/81/21.

After winning the title, d4v41 dedicated this victory to his mother since it was Mother’s Day. A very wholesome way to end the day.

Jinggg’s first tournament back immediately resulted in a victory, and Paper Rex is looking to continue their journey to Shanghai to plant their flag.

As mentioned earlier, Gen.G will still appear in the upcoming Masters tournament. The third-place finishers, T1, will also join the two finalists in representing the Pacific region. The Susanto brothers are dominating the region, as T1’s xccurate, f0rsaken’s older brother, will fly to China with him.
