Chris “PapaSmithy” Smith, former manager of 100 Thieves’ League of Legends division, has been named as FlyQuest’s new president and chief gaming officer.

Chris “PapaSmithy” Smith has joined FlyQuest as the organization’s President and Chief Gaming Officer. With the goal of turning FlyQuest into one of the leading esports organizations in the region, PapaSmithy will work closely with the League of Legends and Super Smash Bros. rosters. Smith’s new role at Fly Quest will also require him to create fresh content strategies, promote brand partnerships, and increase fan engagement to succeed in the competitive market and advance the organization’s business objective.

PapaSmithy noted that the team he built and managed for 100Thieves in the LCS played a significant role in his transition to his new position with FlyQuest. Since FlyQuest possesses the financial resources of the Viola family, there has been speculation that the organization plans to make significant investments in a competitive LCS squad. Given Smith’s commitments, he will play a big part in the teams’ reconstruction for the upcoming season. FlyQuest has spent the last two seasons in the bottom half of the LCS standings, but under Smith’s leadership, the team hopes to change its fortunes in the upcoming season.

As of now, the team’s starting jungler Brandon “Josedeodo” Villegas, has been allowed to explore his options in light of his underwhelming performance in the 2022 LCS season. Furthermore, the reports of Loïc “toucouille” Dubois leaving the North American squad have been swirling on the internet for the last few days. According to a report by Alejandro Gomis of Blix.gg, the French native will be going back to his own country to participate in the La Ligue Française(LFL), which is the country’s regional league.

100 Thieves’ future is still uncertain in LCS

After leaving his position as a caster, PapaSmithy continued his love for gaming by taking a management position at 100 Thieves in 2019. Under his leadership, 100 Thieves secured a spot in the grand final of all three divisions—LCS, Academy, and Amateur—of competitive League of Legends. The organization’s LCS team consistently finished top four throughout the four splits in the past two years. With Smith as the team’s manager, the North American team won the LCS Summer Split Championship in 2021 and also qualified for back-to-back Worlds in 2021 and 2022.

Following 100 Thieves’ elimination from the 2022 League World Championship Papasmithy announced his departure from the organization, stating that he’s interested in building something great in esports in 2023. Furthermore, he claimed that internal arguments about the team’s future were the cause of his departure. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 100 Thieves’ League roster going into the offseason, the organization is probably going to fill PapaSmithy’s position before the start of free agency on November 22.
