paiN bench vsm and promote 16-year-old Rkzinho after poor run

paiN Gaming have made a significant Counter-Strike 2 roster change, moving Vinicius “vsm” Moreira to the bench and promoting 16-year-old academy prospect Rickson “Rkzinho” Ribeiro Dias to the starting lineup.

The move comes after a difficult run of results that culminated in paiN finishing last at BLAST Open Porto. Rkzinho will make his first-team debut in the PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 South America Closed Qualifier, which begins on September 6.

vsm benched after eight months with paiN

vsm joined paiN at the beginning of 2026 following an impressive domestic campaign with Flamengo and Keyd Stars.

During 2025, he averaged a 1.29 rating while competing primarily in Brazil, giving paiN reason to believe he could reproduce that form at a higher international level.

That transition never fully happened.

Across his time with paiN, vsm posted an overall rating of approximately 1.01. His recent form was similarly modest, with a 1.00 Rating 3.0 across 41 maps during the last three months.

  • vsm has been moved to paiN’s bench after roughly eight months
  • He joined following a strong 2025 season in Brazil
  • His overall paiN rating was around 1.01
  • Rkzinho immediately takes his place in the active five

The roster move arrives only days after in-game leader biguzera publicly discussed wider problems inside the team.

biguzera had already warned about trust issues

paiN’s last-place exit from BLAST Open Porto intensified scrutiny around the roster.

After the tournament, biguzera said he felt the players no longer trusted each other in the same way. He also pointed toward communication issues, poor decision-making and a general lack of confidence during official matches.

The Porto exit was only the latest setback.

paiN also finished last at Stake Ranked Episode 3, exited the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals in the opening round and placed 17th-24th at the Esports World Cup.

Promoting Rkzinho therefore looks less like an isolated player swap and more like paiN’s first concrete response to a wider period of competitive instability.

Rkzinho gets first tier-one opportunity

Rkzinho represents a very different type of move.

The 16-year-old has been promoted directly from paiN Academy only one day after appearing in HLTV’s Prospects ranking for the first time. He entered the September list at No. 49.

His performances in the academy have been encouraging.

Rkzinho has averaged a 1.10 rating during 2026 and has recently posted a 1.09 Rating 3.0 across 63 maps, with 0.71 kills per round and 0.64 deaths per round.

  • Rkzinho is only 16 years old
  • He entered the HLTV Prospects ranking at No. 49
  • He averaged around a 1.10 rating with paiN Academy in 2026
  • His first-team debut is scheduled for the Bucharest qualifier

The major question is how quickly those numbers translate against stronger opposition.

Brazilian academy competition offers a very different environment from international tier-one Counter-Strike, and paiN are introducing the youngster during a period when the senior roster is already under considerable pressure.

paiN also expand coaching staff

The player change is not the only adjustment.

paiN have also added Pedro “beto” Umberto to the coaching staff. beto previously worked with organizations including Case, RED Canids and KRÜ.

Henrique “rikz” Waku remains the team’s head coach.

Adding another staff member alongside the promotion of Rkzinho suggests paiN are attempting to address both the tactical and developmental sides of the current problems.

The updated active lineup consists of biguzera, piriajr, saffee, snow and Rkzinho.

Bucharest qualifier becomes immediate test

There will be little time for an extended adaptation period.

Rkzinho’s first official matches with the senior roster arrive in the PGL Masters Bucharest South America Closed Qualifier on September 6.

That creates a difficult situation for the newcomer.

Instead of entering during a quieter part of the calendar, he joins while paiN need results and while questions about the roster’s internal confidence are already public.

At the same time, a fresh player can change the dynamic of a struggling lineup. Rkzinho arrives without the baggage of paiN’s recent defeats and may introduce a different level of aggression or energy.

Whether that is enough to solve the team’s broader problems remains unclear.

Assessment

Benching vsm is a significant but understandable decision given paiN’s recent trajectory.

The experienced rifler arrived after an excellent domestic year but never reproduced those numbers consistently at the higher level. More importantly, paiN’s problems have now expanded beyond one player’s statistics, with biguzera openly discussing issues around communication and trust.

Rkzinho offers upside rather than certainty.

At 16, he is one of the youngest players receiving an opportunity on a recognizable Brazilian tier-one roster, and his academy numbers suggest genuine potential. The jump in opposition, pressure and responsibility will nevertheless be substantial.

The Bucharest qualifier will provide the first indication of whether the change gives paiN the reset they need. Even if Rkzinho performs well, however, rebuilding the team will likely require more than replacing one player.

paiN’s immediate challenge is to restore confidence while giving their new prospect enough space to develop rather than expecting him to instantly solve problems that have accumulated across the entire lineup.
