Overwatch League recently shared new information about its upcoming Midseason Madness tournament. Blizzard Entertainment changed the event’s location and transferred it to Hawaii, reviving the ‘Aloha Project’ tournament, which was hosted in Hawaii by Blizzard in 2021.

In its latest OWL community update, Blizzard Entertainment announced it has changed the location of the OWL’s Midseason Madness tournament because of the currently ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in China. The developer stated that it would be unsafe and inconvenient for teams to travel to the country, thus the tournament will be transferred to Hawaii.

Project Aloha returns

Blizzard Entertainment already has experience with hosting an event in Hawaii as part of the 2021’s Project Aloha, which was the organizer’s solution to the complications around organising international events during a global pandemic. And so the team decided to revive the project and make it possible for OWL teams to visit and compete in Hawaii again.

The format of the tournament remains unchanged 12 OWL squads will fight for six days straight, starting on July 18. Because Asian teams will be playing from home instead of travelling to the event, the East qualifier is pushed to June 24 to maintain a consistent bye week before the Midseason Madness kicks off.

Game patches and new Legendary skins

As for the in-game changes, Blizzard’s latest community update revealed plans to release major balance patches between the tournaments. This means that the teams attending the Midseason Madness will use the latest patch that was released publicly.

Moreover, the developer unveiled a collection of Legendary skins that will be released for each cycle of the Overwatch competitive season in 2022, similarly to the previous season.

There will be a total of four new Legendary tournament-themed skins, plus five additional remix skins featuring the colour theme and aesthetic matching those of the winning team in said tournaments as a form of honouring their accomplishment. The remix skins will feature two regional winners of the Kickoff Clash, two regional winners of the Summer Showdown, and the global winner of the Midseason Madness.

Overwatch players will be able to purchase the tournament-themed skins in the game’s item shop for 200 League Tokens each. Right now, players can purchase the first, Luchador Reaper exclusive skin, which is dedicated to the Kickoff Clash cycle. The skin is available until June 25.
