In Season 17, Overwatch 2 starts focusing more on giving players a stronger hand in how games turn out. Blizzard is clearly shifting into a direction where players don’t just play the game, but also shape the way it goes.
Morocco has been added to the Flashpoint map pool, offering a whole different environment that feels both fresh and tight in design. At the same time, Suravasa and New Junk City went through reworks, changing a few things around the map layout and pace. These changes, building on older additions like hero bans, seem to show Blizzard wants each match to feel like players are deciding more than before.
Season 17: Map Updates, Stadium Heroes, & More
Map Voting Feature

One big new feature is map voting. In ranked matches now, players will get to choose between a few different maps before the match even begins. A small selection shows up on screen, and players vote for the one they like best. That’s it. If you’re someone who’s always wanted to avoid a certain map or see your favorite come up more often, now that chance is there. It’s the first time this kind of system appears in competitive Overwatch 2, so it’ll likely take time before people figure out how to really use it well.
New Skins Arrive and Collaborations Still Under Wraps
For cosmetics, the Mythic skin for D.Va is probably one of the more stylish things this game has seen recently. It has really strong details, and people who play her a lot will probably want to grab it. There’s also a Mythic weapon skin for Reaper, and it leans even more into his grim style, which fits him naturally.

The dev team hinted at some collaborations, though they didn’t confirm what or when. There’s speculation already going around, but for now, we just know that something might be announced later during the season.
Stadium Mode: New Way to Play Familiar Heroes
The new Stadium mode is quite a shake-up. It reworks Zenyatta, Junkrat, and Sigma into new builds that basically turn them into very different versions of themselves.
- Sigma now has the choice between Orbital Barrier, which spins a shield around him that blocks incoming damage, and with Dr. Kyper’s Thesis, can heal teammates when the shield is active. His other path, Orbital Bombardment, drops the defense idea and goes straight for heavy damage, especially in larger zones.
- Junkrat changes depending on what you pick—Bango Power gives him better grenade handling and lets his mines send enemies up into the air. Blasting Off Again raises his firing speed and brings back ammo on good hits, letting him cause nonstop pressure.
- Zenyatta becomes more offensive now. Discord Fever makes his Discord Orb apply constant damage. Circle of Strife goes even further, turning Transcendence into something that targets enemies by sending Discord Orbs all around. These builds are way more aggressive than what we’ve usually seen from him.
Better Menu and Build Details For Custom Strategies
Season 17 also adds a new Saved Builds system. You can now create your own hero setups, name them, sort them by early, flexible, or late-game use, and use them whenever you want. It’s easy to manage through the new Armory tab or even while practicing.
You can also copy builds from teammates or match replays, so if you liked what someone else was doing, you could save it yourself. Longer build names, tags, and space for notes all make this system easier to work with.
Overwatch 2 Season 17 Release Date
Blizzard confirmed that Season 17 will go live on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, for all platforms where Overwatch 2 is available. Also, check out the full release schedule according to your local time zone.
With systems like map voting, saved loadouts, and Stadium’s unique hero builds, Season 17 offers new ways to approach the game. It’s less about just following the meta now—there’s more room for playing how you like and experimenting without losing pace.
