Overwatch 2 Mid-Season Update for Season 17

The Overwatch 2 Mid-Season Update brings new changes to the hero shooters’ heroes, maps, and events.

Suravasa and New Junk City got changed a bit so it feels better to play. Some parts are clearer now and it’s easier to move around.

You can try out the new hero Wuyang early from August 14 to 18, before it really comes out in Season 18.

Flashpoint Maps Got Some Fixes

Two maps in Flashpoint mode, Suravasa and New Junk City, have been reworked. That means Blizzard changed some parts to make them easier to play.

Suravasa now has less big objects on the road. Before, there were too many things in the way. Now it’s easier to see your enemies and move around. Also, buildings near the spawn are made smaller, so players can go to battle quicker. Some paths that didn’t help much are removed too, to stop people from going the wrong way.

New Junk City also changed. Before, it was too messy and hard to move in. Now, places like Bomb Flats and Junkyard have better details. It’s easier to see where you are. Also, spots like the Ducts and Thunderdome are more connected. You can travel faster between places, and that makes the match feel smoother.

Competitive Drives Are Back

Another thing returning is Competitive Drives. They will run again from August 21 to 25. The rules changed a little this time.

Now, you get points only when you win. Losing won’t lower your score until after the first checkpoint. That helps you feel better in the beginning.

But, reaching the top is harder now. You will need more points than before. Still, you can earn those points in both Competitive and Stadium Ranked. So you have more ways to try.

Also, if you play in a group, you can get bonus points. And if you finished the last Drive, you will get a special Prestige version of the reward this time.

Mini-Events – Small Things, Fun Prizes

Two short events are also coming to the game:

Better Together (July 29 to August 25)

This one is simple. You play with friends. When you finish 2, 4, and 6 matches as a group, you unlock Loot Boxes. If you win, it counts more. Stadium matches count more too.

Junkrat’s Loot Hunt (August 1 to 3)

This one gives you Loot Boxes when you play matches each day. If you do 2, 5, or 10 matches in one day, you get rewards. Then the counter goes back to zero the next day. So you can do it again. It’s only for three days, so if you miss a day, you get less boxes.

Hero Balance – What Changed?

Meanwhile, here are all the hero changes across all roles:

Tank Heroes

D.Va now has less rockets and less damage, but her big explosion is stronger and bigger.
Orisa lost a bit of armor. Her Javelin takes one more second before she can throw again.
Reinhardt gets more Overhealth when he uses his special perk.
Sigma’s barrier comes back faster now. His knockdown hits in a smaller area.
Winston does double damage to buildable stuff when using Short Circuit.

Damage Heroes

Ashe now loses less fire damage. Knockback is smaller too.
Bastion’s ultimate is cheaper by 7%.
Freja’s main shot does less damage, but she can shoot more before reloading.
Hanzo’s arrows are now bigger and deal more damage with his ultimate.
Junkrat’s new perk stops healing on enemies in traps, but no longer shows them.
Reaper’s Death Blossom is more expensive now. It takes longer to get.
Tracer has more weapon spread.
Widowmaker’s Infra-Sight is cheaper now.

Support Heroes

Juno can’t fly as fast, but her Mediblaster reaches farther.
Lúcio’s ultimate now costs 9% more.
Zenyatta’s healing is stronger with both his Harmony Orb and Transcendence.
