Blizzard is investigating a disturbing bug in Overwatch 2 that simply shuts down players’ computers. After multiple server issues, game-breaking bugs, loss of progression, and other issues, it would be an understatement to describe the launch of Overwatch 2 as problematic.

Now, another problem has been brought to light, which can potentially destroy users’ PCs. Based on recent reports, some players’ computers tend to completely shut down or restart while playing Overwatch 2, rendering them unable to play the game. The issue was first addressed in a thread on the Blizzard forums nine days ago on October 4, the day when  Overwatch 2 was released.

PCs crash from running Overwatch 2

Blizzard’s EU customer service posted about the issue for the first time yesterday, which, in itself is worrying. In the thread, Blizzard is asking those having the issue to use the ‘Run’ command and post the information from their DXDIAG. It seems the developer hasn’t yet provided a fix, but knowing that the team is investigating the issue is at least encouraging in that regard.

According to the posts in said thread, the bug is inconsistent. Some players experience CPU overheating while queuing, others experience a blue screen, while others report their PC going straight into the BIOS.

If players have no problems with OW2 shutting down their PC, they are probably not yet affected by the bug. But for those who are currently unable to play and whose machines could be damaged at the same time, Blizzard should fix this troubling bug rather quickly.

Apology gifts

Overwatch 2’s launch has been a roller coaster, with many players being angry at the developers. After the failed launch, Blizzard faced a huge backlash, as the title struggled in almost every area: players stuck in 40,000-player queues, banned heroes that already had been unlocked, DDoS attacks, and little to no bug fixes.

Blizzard has taken note of these complaints and decided to compensate fans with a gift for all the hassle players experienced during the launch. In Blizzard’s press release on October 11, the developers said they appreciate the feedback and the sheer volume of players eager to play the game.

Therefore, they decided to give players a reward for being part of the game and dealing with these issues. To get your free goodies, all you have to do is log in to the game between October 25 and the end of the first season.
