Blizzard Entertainment has acknowledged numerous bugs in the latest update of Overwatch 2, with the most notable being the rank decay bug from season three. The developer has promised to quickly address this issue and compensate affected players with competitive points.

Overwatch 2’s game director, Aaron Keller, took to Twitter to inform the players. He mentioned that his team has identified the issue with the rank system. They are working to fix these issues, which will be completed before the next patch. Players may have to wait a few weeks to receive competitive points and title rewards as the exact timing of the patch has not been confirmed yet.

What exactly is the rank decay bug in Overwatch 2?

Blizzard had a mechanic in place in previous seasons of Overwatch 2 called rank decay. Based on this mechanism, players’ ranks and points get demoted, if they are not playing for a while. It is not a new feature but has already been implemented by lots of game titles in the past. Some players have seen their rank increase due to the mechanic, while others have seen a significant drop that doesn’t reflect their skill level, which they feel is unfair.

In light of these issues, Blizzard has announced that they will be implementing a new ranking mechanism in Season 4 of Overwatch 2. This new system will be based on skill tier division, rather than the traditional rank decay. While it may be initially challenging to understand, players have been assured that they will not experience a decline in their rank points due to this new system.

Despite this promise, some players are receiving lower-tier rewards, and their ranks are wrongfully decaying in season four. Additionally, there is a Season 3 bug causing players to receive incorrect rewards.

Players will be compensated with competitive points

The players have been informed by Keller that they would be awarded competitive points according to their position after the patch became effective. He further said that the correct amount of compensated extra points will also be awarded, and players will get to keep their Season 3 points. This is intended to make up for any incorrect rewards or rank decay experienced by players. If you believe that your rank in Overwatch 2 has been unfairly affected, you can play the required number of games to readjust your rank.

In short, Overwatch 2 players can be reassured that they need not worry about the recent changes in the ranking system. It is normal for new implementations to bring challenges and issues, but it is commendable to see how quickly Blizzard’s development teams responded to address community concerns.

Affected players can expect to receive their correct rewards from Season 3. It will most likely be fixed later this month, along with additional compensation. In the meantime, players can continue to enjoy their favorite games and stay updated on the latest developments through Fragster.
