Nick “nitr0” Cannella, one of the biggest names in Esports, has left 100 Thieves, with the VALORANT star appearing to be closing on a spectacular return to CS:GO. The future of nitr0 has been a topic of discussion for a number of months, with it now looking like the veteran will go back to his Counter-Strike roots.

With 100 Thieves having failed to live up to expectations in 2021, the organization has decided to undergo a roster rebuild ahead of the new VALORANT Champions Tour campaign. Part of this saw nitr0 depart, with the org having made the following statement on December 7:

“As we continue to reshape our VALORANT roster for the future, we are announcing the transfer of nitr0 from 100 Thieves. Nick helped to create a winning culture and lifted us to championship heights. We’d like to wish him the best in his next chapter.”

Why Things Did Not Work Out for nitr0 at 100 Thieves

Having been the org’s marquee signing August 2020, nitr0 never quite found his best form, however he was not helped by his teammates. While having not made any official announcement on his future, nitr0 did recognize his release, stating: “Thank you so much 100T for the opportunity to compete under such a great organization. More on my future soon.”

During his time at 100 Thieves, nitr0 helped the org in finished 3rd-4th at the VALORANT Masters Berlin, before winning the First Strike NA event at the end of 2020. However, after missing out on the VALORANT Champions event following a defeat to Cloud9 at the NA Last Chance Qualifier.

What Does the Future Hold for the American Veteran?

Ex-Team Liquid favorite nitr0 was reportedly weighing up a return to CS:GO back in November, having been spotted playing a variety of FACEIT titles following 100 Thieves’ elimination from VALORANT Champions contention. A recent report from Upcomer suggested that nitr0 could well return to Team Liquid, while a switch to Halo Infinite has not been ruled out. This speculation follows nitr0’s top 32 finish at the HCS Raleigh open qualifiers.

Josh “steel” Nissan, Quan “dicey” Tran and Aaron “b0i” Thao have all been released from the 100 Thieves VALORANT roster of late, with their active roster now being made up only by Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, Ethan “Ethan” Arnold and substitute Johann “seven” Hernandez.

As soon as we know more about nitr0’s future anf if he’s really going back to CS:GO, we will let you know here on Fragster.
