Big gaming news keeps hitting the web these days with former Blizzard CEO (and co-founder) Mike Morhaime announcing a brand-new game company called Dreamhaven! This, in short, is absolutely huge news.

Dreamhaven isn’t just a one-man band, but rather a guild of seasoned veterans who’ve proven their worth with years of working under the Activision Blizzard banner. If you’ve followed industry insiders over the years, you’re surely well aware of the dreadful working conditions over at Blizzard. Employees have been complaining about insufficient pay and overtime for years, and many are fed up with such treatment. The amount of pressure that’s coming from Activision is supposedly monumental, and it’s negatively affecting everyone involved. Calling it a horror story wouldn’t even begin to cut it.

Enter Mike Morhaime.

This seasoned industry veteran stepped down as CEO back in 2018 and even left the company entirely just a year later. After his non-compete clause expired, he decided it was time to establish a brand-new company along with his wife Amy and a dozen of seasoned developers, most of which already worked with Mike back at Blizzard. Under the Dreamhaven umbrella, they’ve also announced two separate studios called Moonshot Games and Secret Door. Both are currently working on titles that are still, at the time of this writing, shrouded in secrecy.

Moonshot Games

Game Studios

Moonshot is led by Jason Chayes, Dustin Browder, and Ben Thompson. This trio has multiple decades’ worth of experience and has worked on a broad range of successful titles. This includes Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Command and Conquer, the original Warcraft 3, and so on.

Secret Door is also led by former Blizzard veterans, including Chris Sigaty, Alan Dabiri, and Eric Dodds, all of whom have created many of the titles we all know and love.

As mentioned above, no games have been announced, but we can expect that to change over the coming months. With almost thirty employees working for Dreamhaven, you can be certain they’re cooking up something big and original!

Closing Remarks
It needs to be said that Dreamhaven was born out of frustration. It was, in many ways, a necessity. These talented individuals were fed up with Blizzard’s shoddy business practices and have decided to do something about it. They’re also the creative force behind some of today’s most popular franchises — the games most of us grew up with. If they were able to create such complex and endlessly beautiful worlds years ago, they stand a chance of doing it again, but this time on their own terms.
Without having to think about revenue and meeting anyone’s corporate goals, they’ll be able to create without pressure. And in an industry that’s more and more revolving around crunch time, that’s a rarity.
We hope this fledgling game studio ends up leaving a mark, much like their employees did over the years!
