Muerta, the new Dota 2 hero revealed at The International 11

Dota 2 is growing each year. Not much, but enough to keep people interested in exploring it more. New heroes are added to the game and they usually become quite overpowered. So, when Valve presented their teaser for Muerta, the newest Dota 2 hero, everyone was excited.

Nothing is known about the hero at this point. All we know is that she will be added to the game early next year.

Speculations about Muerta

Based on the model and the speech given by Muerta in the teaser, we can already guess that she will be a position 1 or position 2 hero. She holds a pistol in her hand, and that clearly suggests offensive potential.

She also seems to have similarities with Death Prophet. The monologue is quite clear about this:

“I have suffered atrocities of the living and followed the trails of the damned. On both sides of the spirit veil they whisper my name. And fear me far more than death.”

There aren’t that many Dota 2 heroes equipped with a gun. Sniper, Snapfire, Tinker, and Techies have one, but they’re among the few exceptions. For the most part, heroes are equipped with melee weapons, bows, or other types of weapons. This means that Muerta will be a nice addition to this niche.

Potential Abilities

In regard to Muerta’s abilities, the hero is expected to have some kind of rapid fire ability. Or perhaps some long-range ability. Given that she is holding a gun, something that will help with wave clearing or assassinating enemy heroes is almost guaranteed to be part of her toolkit.

The other side of Muerta is her death-like nature. This means that she will either summon dead units or maybe have summons of her own.

For a ranged hero, she must also have an excellent escape mechanism. This mechanism might consist of a blink or anything else that can help her put some distance between herself and her opponents.

Finally, it never hurts to have a stun or silence on a hero like this. But there’s a good chance that IceFrog won’t be that lazy. Dota 2 is full of heroes that have silencing and crowd control abilities. Creating one more that does exactly the same thing would get mundane very quickly.

Right now, Dota 2 features 123 heroes. Muerta will be the 124th. Hopefully, her toolkit will make her viable in pub games and tournament games alike. Too many heroes end up being played for a while and then become forgotten until they get sufficiently buffed.
