After players finish the game’s main story, they meet Void Kong, who has hired Donkey Kong to collect emeralds on DK Island and beyond with timed objectives in mind. In Emerald Rush, players smash green ore deposits while discovering fossils that unlock different perks for ability upgrades.

The new mode combines roguelike features with a new take on the genre, resetting perks after each run and keeping the layout of the map. The rewards for completing runs consist of new costumes for DK and Pauline, and some statues to customize DK Island.
