Call of Duty League franchise Los Angeles Guerillas has announced the signing of former New York Subliners player Travis “Neptune” McCloud, as well as the promotion of Kris “Spart” Cervantez to the main roster ahead of the CDL Major 4.

The duo will replace Pierce “Gunless” Hillman and Obaid “Asim” Asim, who are moving to the bench for now.

The roster changes come after the team’s disappointing finish at the recent, third Major of the 2022 CDL, and about a week before qualifiers for Major 4 — the last chance to secure a spot at the CDL Championship Weekend 2022.

Neptune returns to CDL

Following a couple of months spent in Challengers with Shady Kings and WhateverItTakes, Neptune now returns to CDL to remedy his previous run with NYSL. During his time with Subliners, he was a part of multiple roster changes, including being benched twice as a result of the team’s rocky 2022 season.

However, Neptune’s Challengers run with Shady Kings was much more successful, as the team with his help won the recent CDL Challengers Toronto Open. Prior to joining NYSL in October 2021, Neptune also played with Florida Mutineers.

Spart re-promoted

Spart has been a substitute player for Guerillas since late 2021 and this marks the second time he has been promoted to the main line-up. In the first instance back in April, promoting Spart to step in for Gunless ended up being a fantastic call by Guerillas, as he helped the team to win the CDL Major 2. Not only that, but he also walked away with an MVP title.

This time around, Guerillas decided to put their hopes into Spart again after the disappointing 9th-12th finish at the recent CDL Major 3.

Will LA Guerillas qualify for Champs?

The 2022 Call of Duty League season was a roller coaster for LA Guerillas, with two Major losses and one Major win in between. While Spart helped the team win the CDL Major 2, they finished last in Major one and three.

With 125 CDL points, Guerillas are currently seventh in the CDL Standings, just behind the likes of Boston Breach, Toronto Ultra and London Royal ravens. They are just 10 points, or one match win, ahead of their local rivals LA Thieves, who are placed 8th.

Only the top eight teams in the CDL rankings will advance to the season-concluding Championship Weekend, set to run from August 4 to 7 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. In order to qualify for the event, Los Angeles Guerillas will need to put up a strong performance both in the upcoming online qualifiers and in the Major itself.
