Yesterday’s quarterfinals of BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022 ended with two upsets. While one of them was relatively small, the other one was monumental.

It seems that Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has remembered that despite his personal problems, as well as his team’s, he is still the best player in the history of CS:GO. And what he did on the second map against FaZe was the stuff of legends.

How FaZe Clan suffered the most shocking defeat in a long time

The first quarterfinal of the tournament looked like a done deal. Predicting a positive result for Na’Vi against the team that stole their trophy at the last CS:GO Major would have required a huge leap of faith. Every single statistic indicated that Na’Vi would lose the match badly, in two rounds and at a low round score. What happened was the exact opposite.

Na’Vi had first-pick and went for Dust 2. FaZe Clan thought it would be a good idea to pick Inferno. After all, why not? Their score on the map was 9 W – 3 L ahead of the match, while their opponent’s was 5 W – 4 L. On top of that, Na’Vi were playing with a stand-in Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev and their synergy was poor because of it.

Despite their limitations, Na’Vi started the match with a devastating first half on Dust — 13:2. They managed to win a couple more rounds, but the final score was 13:6. Three players saw phenomenal scores, namely +8 for Denis “electroNic” Sharipov, +6 for Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy, and +7 for s1mple. Meanwhile, only one player had a rating 2.0 higher than 1 — FaZe’s Helvijs “broky” Saukants.

The 2nd map was a complete disaster for FaZe. At this competitive level, what happened to them is extremely rare and quite hard to explain. Basically, the number 1 team in the world won a single round on their own map pick. S1mple’s rating 2.0 on Inferno was 2.29, which is completely off-the-charts.

Semifinals predictions

The semifinal matches of BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022 will take place on Saturday, starting at 4:30 pm CEST and 9:00 pm CEST.

OG vs. Natus Vincere

OG defeated Na’Vi in their group stage match, but after seeing s1mple’s performance against FaZe Clan yesterday, it’s hard to imagine the CIS team losing for the second time against this opponent.

G2 Esports vs. Team Vitality

G2 has already defeated Vitality in the group stage, but Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut proved to be in great shape against ENCE. In fact, he’s the only reason why Vitality won that match. If he can play the same way against G2, his team stands a chance.
