Mykhailo Mudryk Banned from FACEIT for Toxicity in Counter-Strike 2 Match

Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukrainian winger for Chelsea FC, has been banned for 28 days from the competitive FACEIT platform while playing Counter-Strike 2 due to a series of offensive and abusive comments made during an online match. The ban was issued after the incident drew widespread attention both within and outside the CS2 community.

Details of the Ban and In-Game Incident

Mudryk’s ban stemmed from comments he made in the text chat during a FACEIT match against Polish players. According to reports, the messages contained references to the Volyn massacres that occurred during World War II – a highly sensitive and controversial subject in Polish-Ukrainian history. Multiple media outlets confirm that Mudryk’s use of these references violated FACEIT’s conduct and toxicity rules, leading to the suspension.

The suspension period lasts approximately 28 days, after which the account enters a three-month probation period. Should Mudryk receive a further toxicity offense during that time, FACEIT policy allows for more severe penalties, including up to a full year suspension.

Community Reporting and Reactions

Screenshots allegedly showing Mudryk’s chat messages were widely shared across social media platforms, escalating the situation into a broader online discussion about player conduct and responsibility. Some of the screenshots included phrases such as “next Volyn” and other historical references that many observers labeled as inappropriate and inflammatory.

Reports from Polish media also indicated that one of Mudryk’s opponents in the match claimed no prior provocation occurred, suggesting the exchange began after routine in-game interactions rather than targeted insults before the comments were posted.

Context: Suspension From Professional Football

Mudryk’s e-sports suspension comes while he is already serving a provisional ban from professional football after testing positive for a banned substance (meldonium) in late 2024. He faces a potential four-year suspension from official football competition pending the full outcome of that case.

In football, Mudryk has made over 70 appearances for Chelsea, contributing goals and assists, but recent performance has been overshadowed by off-field issues as well as his absence from matches due to the suspension.

What the FACEIT Ban Means

The ban only applies to the FACEIT competitive platform, not to Counter-Strike 2 itself. This means Mudryk can still play on Valve’s official matchmaking servers outside of FACEIT during the suspension period, but he will be restricted from using FACEIT’s competitive features and ranked ladders.

FACEIT enforces player conduct rules strictly regardless of a player’s public profile, and this case demonstrates that violations of communication standards can lead to enforced suspensions even for high-profile individuals.
