The Malaysian esports community has high expectations as the Mobile Legends Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) gears up for the start of Season 16. This will be the last of the Legacy, or Traditional, format seasons; beginning in Season 17, MPL MY will adopt a franchise model, similar to MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines.

Season 16: The Legacy Farewell

The Season 16 regular season will take place from September 13 to October 19, 2025, at Dewan Sri Putra in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. The regular season will consist of a single round robin all matched as Best of Three (BO3) played over six weeks. The top six teams will advance into a playoffs stage with 2 direct slots available to the M7 World Championship.

  • Enhanced Production: Broadcast quality and event organization will be improved.
  • Development Leagues: Structured leagues will help new talent reach the main league.

Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, stated, “This transition will build on previous opportunities, facilitate collaboration with third parties, and put us towards a more sustainable ecosystem layout for teams, players, and partnerships.”

Looking forward

Fans are gearing up for Season 16 not only for the matches, but for its historical relevance as the last tournament legacy season with the two highest-placed representatives going on to represent Malaysia in the M7 World Championship. Matches will be live streamed on the MPL Malaysia Facebook page and the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang YouTube channel for fans who will not be able to attend in-person.

In the past, MPL MY has broken viewership numbers, even globally, with a record peak of 870,000 last year. As the franchise era arrives, the league is looking on the journey of growth and as it progresses, there will be more and more opportunities for teams, players, and fans.
