The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League is apologizing after admitting that the organization of its 10th season was conducted without the consent of Pengurus Besar Esports Indonesia (PBESI), the regulatory body for esports in Indonesia.

MPL Indonesia apologizes for its mistake to PBESI, participants, and the public on its Twitter account.

MPL Indonesia Season 10 reportedly took place between August and October 2022 without PBESI’s authorization or support. Two years after Mobile Legends: Bang Bang launched, the Mobile Legends Professional League (MLBB) debuted. At this time, MLP Indonesia apologizes for violating PBESI rules before Season 11.

About Pengurus Besar Esports Indonesia (PBESI)

Pengurus Besar Esports Indonesia is the recognized and government-approved governing body for esports in Indonesia. From 2020 to 2024, Pol. Gen. Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan is the director of PBESI.

PBESI is in charge of organizing tournaments up to the development of a national league. In addition, the organization works with the government to ensure that esports is regulated and meet international standards in various aspects of the industry, from organizing tournaments to developing a national gaming league.

They are responsible for securing partnerships with various stakeholders, from sponsors to the media. They also ensure that Indonesian esports are adequately represented on an international scale.

It also actively works with youth groups, clubs, and schools to further promote e-sports in the country. PBESI provides a safe and friendly gaming environment in Indonesia, ensuring that esports events comply with international standards.

Consequences for MPL for organizing the event without the consent of PBESI

PBESI, in its bylaws, has policies for dealing with rule violations, thus imposing sanctions on the league if necessary.

In-game infractions and off-field transgressions are some examples of rule violations. Cheating with the software and violating Esports League rules, Esports Tournaments, and multi-sport competitions are examples of in-game infractions.

Out-of-game infractions, which the MPL appears to have violated, include misuse of the PBESI name, breach of employment contracts by professional esports teams, and displacement of players who do not fulfill their commitments to PBESI, as well as infractions committed by game developers.

Depending on the severity, PBESI may impose sanctions such as light and severe reprimands, removal as a registered vendor, and perhaps a fine. These are potential sanctions, but there is no guarantee which sanctions apply in this case.

MPL Indonesia concludes its statement by identifying PBESI as the only Indonesian eSports organization recognized by the Indonesian Government. Furthermore, they state that they would abide by any future terms and conditions set by the organization.
