After months of speculation, the Call of Duty 2022 title has been officially announced as Modern Warfare 2, a full 13 years after the release of the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

For a long time there was speculation about the upcoming release of Call of Duty, but fans were left floundering as there was no official confirmation from Infinity Ward or Activision Blizzard. But after the unmitigated crash of Warzone and the fail of Vanguard, the publisher is getting back to its roots and relaunching a sequel to one of its most popular titles as a new game.

New game tested by NFL Draft

As we approach the promo months of the Call of Duty season, with developers and Activision preparing their next product, there’s no trailer yet – but the familiar Modern Warfare 2 logo is officially coming back. Yesterday, April 28, however, there was finally news.

On social media, Infinity Ward and Call of Duty posted the new Modern Warfare 2 logo, finally confirming the rumors that have existed for so long in the Call of Duty universe. Shortly before that, there was also news, as the new game was introduced to the candidates for the NFL Draft 2022, and many of you showed heavy enthusiasm and, of course, tweeted that diligently.

“It was so realistic, it’s insane,” said projected first-round pick Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. “And on top of that, a new Warzone 2 is coming out with it.” This very in-depth statement from a football player who has apparently since digitized into a game critic tells us about as much about the game as if you’d asked a preschooler.

The end of Activision’s creativity?

It was briefly thought that CoD would be content to just keep producing sequels, but with the re-release of a sequel no matter how popular it was, they’ve outdone themselves once again. Launching the marketing vehicle via the NFL is well done in that regard, as it naturally reaches the young American mainstream console crowd.

Even if one could doubt whether NFL players are the most suitable people as game critics. All that’s missing now is that Kim Kardashian and her family get to see this before the community does, so they can give their two cents. The end of the line for Activision’s creativity has probably been reached.

The fans’ hopes

Besides the Modern Warfare 2 logo posted on Call of Duty’s social channels, there was no Warzone 2 logo, but a new free-to-play Warzone experience has already been confirmed by Activision. At the moment, no further information about Modern Warfare 2 is available. The original Modern Warfare 2 was a huge success, and many fans still have good associations with it and are looking forward to the new release accordingly.
