Call of Duty ended 2022 on a high note, thanks to Modern Warfare 2 becoming the top-selling game in the United States. Even though it was released in the last quarter of the year, Modern Warfare 2 topped NPD’s sales charts.
The latest title in the franchise, it earned $1 billion in sales revenue in just ten days after its release. In addition to breaking franchise records, Modern Warfare 2 beat out another heavyweight, Elden Ring, for Game of the Year.

The latest installment of the Call of Duty franchise, in addition to topping the list of the year’s best sellers in the United States, also took first place on the monthly sales list in December. Activision has not disclosed the exact figure. However, after reaching the billion-dollar mark in just ten days, they have spoken out about the game’s unprecedented success.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the sixth installment in the Call of Duty franchise, immediately following the popular 2019 release of Modern Warfare. The Call of Duty franchise gets a fresh start with the newly updated engine, giving a complete package with its extensive story, multiplayer, and Spec Ops experience. Additionally, Warzone 2, Call of Duty’s take on the battle royale genre, is connected to the game and can now be played for free.
It is important to note that the number of Modern Warfare 2 users has dropped considerably. For his part, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag has created a list of things that could bring the community back to the game.
