Mobile Alder Lake to Deliver Incredible Efficiency and Power, i5-1250P More Potent Than i7-11800H

By the looks of it, mobile Alder Lake SKUs are going to provide mind-blowing value for the asking price, and that is especially true for the “mid-tier” Core i5-1250P, a 28W processor that is far more powerful than you could ever imagine based on its spec sheet.

Believe it or not, this particular model is faster and more efficient than one of the most popular high-end Tiger Lake H-series processors on the market right now: the Core i7-11800H. And, to make things even more baffling, this is still a “mid-tier” CPU — it’s far from a flagship product. Its base clock of 2.1 Ghz and boost of ±3.7—4.4 Ghz look fairly impressive on paper, but these numbers alone don’t really mean much in the grand scheme of things: there are always many variables at play.

Fortunately, it seems that Intel has an absolute winner on its hands. The Core i5-1250P will feature 12 cores (4 Performance cores, 8 Efficiency cores) and is no doubt going to become a highly sought-after CPU from the very moment it hits the shelves. In total, it’ll have 12 cores and a whopping 16 threads. Its first benchmark run was spotted inside an MSI Prestige 14 A12SC laptop, a thin-and-light model that is far from a gaming beast.

Fortunately, you’d never be able to tell based on the way it performs.

Let’s Talk Numbers

The Core i5-1250P is actually 10% faster than the i7-11800H in both single- and multi-core tests. That’s pretty darn mind-blowing! And, well, these results will be more than sufficient to give Intel a fighting chance against AMD and Apple.

Intel’s mobile Alder Lake SKUs are going to be revealed in a matter of hours at this year’s CES. There’s still a fair bit that we don’t know, but one thing’s for certain: all of our questions will be answered on January 4th, so make sure to tune in!
